Has everyone received their emails confirming the price increases? I have had nothing thus far?

I have BT along with my sister and a friend. None of us have received official notifications yet on the price increases.

Email only received on 10 February, and they're still going out I believe. Presumably they're trying to stagger the number of calls to their call centres.

I switched to TalkTalk in the end - £27pm genuinely fixed price for 18 months to include line rental and unlimited 38mb fibre, with a further £5pm on top for anytime calls to landlines and mobiles.

Various free add-ons included, such as caller display, call divert, alarm call etc.

And a free SIM too - 500MB Data, 200 minutes, Unlimited texts

Pretty much unbeatable deal with £110 Quidco on top.

Thanks Guys - Spoke with BT, they have confirmed that the emails are being done in batches so their customer services team can keep up with all the calls. There a couple more batches to be sent out but they were unable to confirm when.

It's over on the BT forums about being able to get the Line Rental Saver back if you quit due to the price increase - clearly BT realising they don't have a leg to stand on...

    Hi Guys,

I wanted to give you all a new update as of 10/02/2017 about ceasing line rental saver due to price changes.

If you decide to leave because of the Price Changes (letting us know within 30 days of receiving your price change notification) you will receive a refund of the remaining months of your LRS payment on your final bill. This will be done automatically in the background.

    Thanks

And yet I received this from them today in a cancellation email:

"We won't be able to refund your upfront payment for BT Line Rental Saver

You've paid up to £205.08 in advance for 12 months' line rental, but we can't refund any of it as it was a special discount for paying upfront."

Getting my Ultra HD box on eBay before they get flooded now everyone will know about this :D

That Ultra HD box is the most cutting edge PVR available on the market, so why do you want to get rid of it?

Did you ring them up to cancel? As thats the only way not to incur non-refund? And it states that in the email and letter?

    You mean this bit?:

"You don't need to do anything but if you want to change something or leave, and you're within your minimum contract term, you'll need to contact us within 30 days of receiving this email to avoid paying a charge for leaving early. You'll need to give us 30 days' notice to leave (or 14 days if you're switching to a new provider). We won't charge you for any increase in price during that time."

Yes I did call them, just to allow them one final chance to come up with an offer, and gave them cancellation notice. The email followed very shortly after the switch to TalkTalk.

I'm not remotely bothered - I'll get the refund, as I have done before from other ISPs, but it's typical of the dishonest way that BT behaves.

Oof - cutting edge! Not in practise!

This thing has a mind of its own - switching on randomly even when no recordings are scheduled (although I think this might be BT's way of fixing the extremely bad problem that was the thing just not switching on at all! Admittedly it hasn't happened since the last firmware update but if you used the deep sleep energy save mode then there was a good chance it just wouldn't wake up, ruining your recording schedule and requiring a hard reboot, or on occasion a complete safe mode reinstall! BT's solution was to have it on low energy saver the whole time, resulting in the fan being mostly on and the top of the box being too hot to touch).

Not to mention no 5.1 sound from Netflix (still, after all this time).

I still have the old, more reliable, Youview+ box from the last time I quit BT early for price increases and it works just fine.

Plus my 4K TV is loaded with 4K stuff, so I have no need to keep the UIltra HD box around.
  • Received my email on Saturday about the price increases.

I'm currently half way through a 12 month deal to get home phone and unlimited broadband for £29 following a very unhappy time with Talk Talk.

Rang this morning and told them I was very unhappy with the price increases, and without any hassle was offered what I have now for £23.99 per month on a new 12 month contract. Also informed that as long as I'm in contract there will be no charge for BT Sport Lite (although I would have been happy to let that go as it's basically crap apart from the odd Premier League match).

I very rarely use the landline to make calls and then only at weekends if my mobile is flat, and very few calls come into it for me as well these days.

So happy with a £6 a month saving which will just pay for my new Netflix contract.
