    Its 30 days.

    Thank you!

Any idea how it works with transferring the number over from BT to Virgin Media ? - I assume they can't transfer the number over to Virgin until after the 30 days then ? - So I would need to signup with Virgin to nearer the end of the 30 days notice period so BT service will disconnect and therefore the number be available again ?

14 days if you are moving supplier however and not just cancelling.

I assume that doesn't apply to Virgin though, as it isn't utilising the same phone line etc ?

As I've said above, you will find that you only require to give 14 days notice if you are leaving for another supplier, so say the switch takes 18 days from when you notify BT then you will only be charged for those 18 days, not 30.

So, to confirm, BT are allowing you to leave with no exit charge, no need to return any equipment and a pro-rata Line Rental Saver refund?
Yep.. as long as you tell them you want to leave because of the broadband price increase.

I don't see why not, it is still just another supplier.

I left BT the first time in 2015 and I went to Virgin and I did not have to pay the full 30 days - I did have to remind them of this right enough, but they did refund me.

You would need to ask Virgin that.

Sorry, with a no penalty cancellation, its 30 days, not 14. No matter what one does. Not that thats important.

VisionMan, not sure how you reach that conclusion. Here's an extract from the BT price increase email:

"You don't need to do anything but if you want to change something or leave, and you're within your minimum contract term, you'll need to contact us within 30 days of receiving this email to avoid paying a charge for leaving early. You'll need to give us 30 days' notice to leave (or 14 days if you're switching to a new provider). We won't charge you for any increase in price during that time."

The 14 days notice when switching seems pretty clear.

Here's the email received immediately after signing up with TalkTalk just to confirm - note the sting in the tail about advance line rental, though. They'll need correcting on that point!

    Dear Doc N,

Another service provider has told us you want to move your phone line and broadband over to them on 28-Feb-2017. So we're taking this as notice that you want to stop these services with us on that date.

If that's not right, or you've changed your mind, please get in touch with us on 0800 345 7311 as soon as you can. The sooner you call us the easier it is to change things. If we don't hear from you by 2pm on 24-Feb-2017, your services will automatically be moved on 28-Feb-2017.

    When you leave BT
We'll send you a final bill with the amount you need to pay. It'll include charges for the services you have with us, up to and including 28-Feb-2017. We'll take this payment in the same way we took your previous payments. So, if you've been paying by Direct Debit or Monthly Payment Plan, please don't cancel it until we've taken your final payment. This means the credit or debit balance you have can go towards your final bill, and you'll get any refund due to you faster by Direct Debit than cheque.

We won't be able to refund your upfront payment for BT Line Rental Saver
You've paid up to £205.08 in advance for 12 months' line rental, but we can't refund any of it as it was a special discount for paying upfront.

Charges for ending your contract early
You won't have to pay any charges for ending your contract.

Sorry, but you are mistaken - as the poster above clarifies, and I already mentioned that the last time I left BT because of the price increase I only had to pay for the exact amount of days over the 14 days minimum.

And seeing this is moneysavingexpert.com I think it is important - those up to 16 days worth are better off in our pockets than BTs!
