MSE News: BT to hike broadband and call prices and charge TV customers for BT Sport

I rang BT yesterday and told them I was leaving, they offered me a £1.50 discount off the new pricing, so still more than I was paying before, deciding between Sky and TalkTalk now.
Been looking at PlusNet as well, problem is when reading reviews of these providers, they all (the reviews) say that they are are rubbish. #confused0 -
And yet I received this from them today in a cancellation email:
"We won't be able to refund your upfront payment for BT Line Rental Saver
You've paid up to £205.08 in advance for 12 months' line rental, but we can't refund any of it as it was a special discount for paying upfront."You mean this bit?:
"You don't need to do anything but if you want to change something or leave, and you're within your minimum contract term, you'll need to contact us within 30 days of receiving this email to avoid paying a charge for leaving early. You'll need to give us 30 days' notice to leave (or 14 days if you're switching to a new provider). We won't charge you for any increase in price during that time."
Yes I did call them, just to allow them one final chance to come up with an offer, and gave them cancellation notice. The email followed very shortly after the switch to TalkTalk.
I'm not remotely bothered - I'll get the refund, as I have done before from other ISPs, but it's typical of the dishonest way that BT behaves.
Just for the record (and in case anyone gets the misleading standard email) one phone call did the trick - line rental paid in advance will be refunded.
They guy I spoke to did a sterling job trying to persuade me to stay with BT too - £25.99 unlimited Infinity 1, including line rental, on a 24 month contract. I asked for that a week ago, and if they'd been prepared to offer it then I probably wouldn't have defected! Now I think the TalkTalk deal's a better one, particularly with £110 Quidco.0 -
Just gone ahead and spoken to BT. Apparently I don't give 30 or 14 days notice. They activate a 30 day grace period from today in which I can leave them without penalty.
Gone ahead and signed up to TV with Tivo, 50Mbps Unlimited Broadband, Phone with weekend calls and line rental from Virgin Media for £15 per month for 12 months (and £50 credit) - no activation. I couldn't beat that so very happy now. :j0 -
hey're offering me infinity 2 with evening and weekend calls for £34.49 on the online chat
i was paying around £32 a month for infinity 1 with evening & weekend calls
should i take up the offer?0 -

they said this would't be effected by the price rises
i would prefer to stay on infinity 1 and pay less but they say they cant offer me anything on infinity 10 -

And yet they offered me £25.99 for Infinity 1 - but only after the switch process had started. Prior to that it wasn't an option that was available.
A lesson there, maybe?0 -
BT have been a complete shambles and I was so pleased to see that I could leave. Then I got an email saying I had to pay them £65 for internet equipment and I wouldn't get my remaining line rental back. After a few phone calls, I was told it's an old generic email and that I wouldn't be charged £65 and I would get back my remaining line rental. Now I've just had a sorry your leaving text with the threat of being charged £65 again. How can they get away with this? I'm sure some people will cancel leaving because they don't want to pay £65 not knowing that they don't have to.
I always ask them to email me conformation of a telephone call and they never do. They are utterly unprofessional.0 -
Correct.
Obviously you need to stipulate that you are leaving because of the price increase.
But I got over that. I didn't ask for a price rise and I'm really not that happy about it. Why give up an opportunity to protest over it?0
