Oh, I really hope so, it's the freedom to be the mad auntie that makes growing old worthwhile
Didn't need to check my booking, HR emailed and they have extended my contract by one week. 5 weeks more work to go *worried smilie*
I checked out the other night what tax/child credits we would be entitled to taking just DH's low salary as the only salary and we'd get just under £600 per month but only until August when DS will be 20. It's less than my outgoings each month which is a shame as I'm liking the idea of retiring :rotfl:
could you manage though? We slashed our income by 1/2 when I was out of work for 15 months. I did a few part time NMJs, some ebaying, msing and we slashed things down to the bone. Oh had to suck it up that he had to pay all outgoings and then I used my savings/extra income to survive. I literally was spending less than £100 on petrol and all things needed personally. Gave me time to get my head together.
Added bonus is when I started working again while I am contributing only 1/4 of our household expenses to oh he felt like he'd had a pretty impressive pay rise :rotfl: win winDF as at 30/12/16

Clootiesmum The trains have to be disrupted for longer than an hour and then I automatically get a refund the next time I renew my ticket.
DNMS If I cash in my (very small) pension to pay off some debts I might be able to manage but the pension then would count as income so I guess that would reduce the amount.

A quick check in from me! I'm so stuffed for money, this long month has killed me! Monday is payday so I will get back to my MSE ways then!
I had to pop into work this morning to get some payslips and show off DS, naturally! I've not done much else though, ironing, washing, little jobs round the house!
MIL is meant to be looking after DS tonight whilst me and DH are out for a few drinks for a friends birthday

Evening all :hello:
Just a quick check in from me tonight - I have a migraine niggling and I want to try and get to sleep as early as possible before it gets any worse.
Bagged another nsd and also a free sarnie for dinnerMy bacon buns went down well at work. Not much on the grand scale of things but it has been a rubbish week for pretty much my entire department at school.
I will report in properly tomorrow. I've only managed hoovering and a bit of washing since I got in.
Ziggy - hope you've enjoyed the wedding. Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Evening all
Sunny day today, but very cold. Helped mitigate somewhat the Trump / Brexit depression plus annoying family stuff going on
Today's small things (very small list due to annoying family stuff)
NSD :T
HM meals from stores - I made a tuna and cheese pasta bake thing from the Eat Well for Less cookbook (the one from the TV series). I must confess I found the programmes, or those that I watched, a bit annoying, but the book has some good recipes, some new things, and different slants on old favourites as with this one
Used up some squishy tomatoes in the pasta bake
Used up some slightly OOD cream in the cheese sauce
Used frozen roasted courgettes instead of a fresh one (if the press are to be believed, these now cost a fortune - I wouldn't know because I consider them something that grows in the summer, not something to buy in the winter)
Plenty of pasta bake left for tomorrow as well :T
Noticed that the chunk of parmesan in the fridge had grown a partial fur coat  Salvaged it by cutting off the furry bits for the birds, grating the rest and freezing it. I tend to keep a piece in the fridge, and usually it keeps for ages, tending to go harder rather than mouldy, not sure why it did this time
Froze leftover portion of beef stew that we are fed up with, that will do for a jacket potato filling for another time
Wrapped and posted 2 ebay sales
Walked to post office to save fuel, and for free exercise
Listed more items on ebay
Bit of paperwork for business (actually I have a lot more of this to do, but need to use the printer... can't face the dog barking frantically at the printer tonight so will have to wait till tomorrow)
Surveys
Looking at the list, a bit more than I thought0 -
DH had a good afternoon at work and paid for a curry tonight so the YS chicken breasts will stay in the freezer a bit longer!
DS was cooking the YS chicken bake thingy I got the other day and stroppily refused curry instead as I'd said I wouldn't give him money to go out. As it happens DH has just given me his housekeeping for this week and I'm torn between just giving him some money to go out to get rid of him as he's being obnoxious, or saying no to teach him a lesson and having to put up with the inevetible fallout which will involve banging, shouting and throwing things. I know which I *should* do but I'd like a peaceful evening but it's giving into him that has turned him into a spoilt brat in the first place.
We got to leave work an hour early this evening as everything had been sent :T It was great news for us all tonight but maybe not so good in the great scheme of things to be seen to be coping when we are one person down (on account of the nicest man I've ever worked for having been made redundant just before Christmas.)
I'm tucked up in bed already with a cup of tea waiting to watch EastEnders and Big Brother.

Evening chums :hello:
Hope the migraine goes away CCL  xx
fvd, if you only have to wait til after April to get it tax free could you do all manner of no spending and store cupboard challenges to get you that far...? April's not that far away now
Today's just whizzed past (apart from the afternoon at work, which felt like it took about 17 hours :rotfl: ) But I have:
* taken leftovers for lunch, and home made flapjack for snacks :j
* cycled to work (and walked home because I was nattering on the phone)
* successfully avoided Mr Cheery's suggestion that we get a takeaway  in Uber Frugal January too!! fortunately managed to talk him out of it and we made a risotto insteadBut it was a close run thing!
*oh! and I quickly knocked up some biscuits from some mix I'd stored in the freezer last week :j Not sure whether I left them in the oven too long, or whether the mix just didn't freeze well but they were pretty solid and not that nice. We ate them anyway though :rotfl: :money: :rotfl:
That's all :rotfl: but some days you just don't do very much actual money saving stuff I suppose
Just about to paint undercoat on the rest of the skirting in the kitchen. Complete faff of a job as it'll mean moving all the stuff that's stored in here out of the way of other rooms we're decorating, but I am in my little decorating suit and ready:rotfl: Mr Cheery is doing some wall-rebuilding (kind of) upstairs. We know how to have a rockin' Friday night! :rotfl:
Have a good rest of the evening all xx0 -
I'm back. I'm shattered. I'm trying to catch up on what you've all been doing whilst I've been away with work.
- saved on B/L/D the last 3 days and fuel for going into work.
- I brought home some snack bars that were available at breaks
- won a bottle of champagne but gave it to my colleague who's been manning the office
- had YS curry box for tea
- picked up a couple of bits from Asda on the way home and wombled a receipt to price guarantee will check tomorrow as you have to leave it 3 hours before you can check.

Hi all
Shattered, sorry I have read all your posts, just not absorbed much. Decided to spend a few hours blitzing the house this afternoon instead of working. I will have to work at home tomorrow but thats OK.
DS1 is learning to drive and has bought himself a little car so we have spent ages sorting the insurance tonight. The car cost £600 and insurance £1050 (with one of those boxes) but he can get cash back if he drives well.
When I was in my late teens and early twenties my parents gave me money and bought me things, one of the reasons why I became so bad with money and am still paying off debts in my mid 40s. We cant afford to help DS1 much but in any case I want him to learn to manage his own money as much as possible.0
