Dawn Funny enough I did notice that today. I remember prices really well and basics pasta sauce was up 5p, basics pasta the same. They've probably done it across their whole basics range. Will check as I go..." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Yes I know exactly what it's like. Have lost £600 in booked work this month. Sympathies. Annoying such short notice too for you." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

(((((((hugs all round))))))) seems lots of people are suffering in one way or another this week
1 luckylady, I was impressed with all your using up! We're not big on toiletries here and I only ever have one bottle of shampoo etc, but I've realised just how many half open bottles/tubs of body lotion we haveDon't want to have to pack them all so trying to use them all up - some kind of brazil nut body butter this week so I smell quite fragrant :rotfl:

Evening all,
Hope you are having a fab time, Ally, and great news about the flat, Katy AnnCyber hugs to all those who are feeling under the weather.
My train was cancelled this morning so I was late for work, really bad timing as I was planning to ask to take tomorrow as holiday to help middle DSS and his little family move flats. I thought I'd better do some work before asking (though did check out where we are with the workload) and then DH emailed to say the move has been put off for a week so I all worked out for the best in the end.
I have a sore throat and hacking cough and it is bloomin' freezing here, and I don't generally feel the cold. DH cooked spaghetti bolognese tonight :T (using the YS mince I got the other lunch time.) It was lovely to come home and not have to cook and now we're in bed already trying to keep warm.
I have a slow cooker question to ask, please, I've always avoided making soup from the chicken carcass because I hate the smell of it boiling away, could I just leave it in water in the slow cooker (now I have one) on high to make the stock? My first husband used to make lovely chicken and chilli soup (that sounds like I've had lots of them, it's just the two :rotfl: ) and I'd like to give that a try.
Today wasn't a no spend day as I bought some digestive biscuits and cheese to supplement my soup at lunch time but I have enough left over for tomorrow and possibly Monday if the cleaner isn't too thorough in clearing out the fridge. At least it's only once a week, I did some shifts at one of the free newspapers and their fridge is cleared every day (as I found to my cost)
Payday has been brought forward by two days on account of January being a difficult month :T I need to check whether the extra weeks they've asked me to do will be added to my contract or whether it will be a freelance booking. I'm hoping the latter as it's a better rate plus if they extend my contract it will leave me with an odd half days holiday accrued which is a bit of a waste as I'd still have to pay the same train fare to come in for half a day as I would for a day. (Unless I did the middle of the day I suppose and bought an off peak ticket, I will have to look into that if it happens.)Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Dawn, Mr T have hiked the cost of their own brand butter too, not as much as Sainsbugs but from below £1 to I think around £1.10 (or thereabouts.)
I've been thinking about the cost of food today and how it's the last frontier of moneysaving for me. We haven't had a foreign holiday for 5 or 6 years (and I believe I'm still paying the CC debt for that one), we don't really go out much, I've downsized the house, all that's left now is the 'small things'but the food bill is actually a BIG expense.

I do that FVD, on high if I am around, as it will only take a few hours, but on low works ok as well, if you are at work or otherwise out for the day. It doesn't need to 'boil away'. Only use enough water to cover the carcase though (and break it up a bit first). It is nicest if you add an onion, or a bit of one, a carrot and celery stick (carrot peelings or celery trimmings also work, as they generally get put on the compost heap when the stock is finished!)0 -
Morning Campers,
Today's small things:
*Clean house using minimal products & washable cloths.
*Knit as much as possible of the final sock of my current order.
*Label all my marmalade.
*Wrap ebay item which unexpectedly sold yesterday.
*Write meal plan & shopping list as these dropped off the list yesterday.
*Round up everything that needs using up for soup-making tomorrow. Have guests to feed Sunday lunchtime & intend to offer 2 different kinds of home made soup with a big platter of crusty bread. Will also check chocolate bun ingredients for same.
Have a good Friday, all.
FVD- I make chicken stock exactly like Dawn describes. I used to put half an onion & a carrot in. I now use top & tail of an onion or two & use the rest for something else. Ditto carrot peelings. I always put an onion skin in too as I temember my cookery teacher saying they help give a nice rich colour. I always add 1 bayleaf & 3 black peppercorns too.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

Morning foxgloves, you're posting early today! So I have an unexpected day off and madam is going to the outlaws. I intend to deal with my tax return and get it out of my hair!
Other than that:
* hang up washing & do another load
* I do need to do some work sadly, but hopefully an hour should be enough. Embarrassingly I have to cancel 3 appts that are today, so still a little miffed at the manager for such shoddy management!
* go for a run after cancelling my appts
* all meals from stores - check meal plan and get something out of the freezer
* depending on how long it takes to do the tax return I may get down to the allotment. Be good to spend a few hours there starting to get ready for the coming growing season
* photo some things to list on fleabay
that seems more than enough for 1 day! TFIFDF as at 30/12/16

Morning DNMS. Yes, I am up & at it earlier.....sped on by the fact that the entire morning news was about the Trump. So switched off & got cracking!
Quite a few bits of veg need using urgently so I will make one of those 2 soups today - spicy vegetable. Might have a walk down to the veggie garden to see if there are any little turnips left to add to it.
Just looked in the mirror & seen my roots. Yeeeuuuccchhh! So can add to today's money saving list mixing up the half of the hair colour pack I saved & blitzing those. Can't go out campaigning tomorrow with shinky roots, lol, the local press might be there :-)2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever
