BT Call blocking phones

What are my options for this? Although I am on the TPS and never have given out the land-line number we have ended up on a mailing list that is now clearly spreading our number around like VD - we get three to four calls a day.

So my options are:

1) BT 6500 handset that blocks all international calls
2) A third party call blocker - although I hear these are hit and miss
3) ???????????

So is there a third option (beyond killing the number and not having a land-line).

A BT8500 which works even more efficiently, blocking anything you want to add to the list.

Thanks - we have ramped up to four calls *an hour*
  • My elderly disabled Mother in Law was recently conned out of £79.99 by an outfit called Stop The Calls. They state that they can stop cold calling which is a load of rubbish. If The Telephone Preference Service can't stop all these calls how will these idiots do it. Its just a con, targeting old and vulnerable people. I am trying to get her money back but l am not holding my breath. These people must be stopped from conning old people every time they pick up the phone. They even cold called her to set up the scam. The parent company of Stop The Calls is Conservo Digital Ltd (Bournemouth).

  • I wish I had some tangible advice. I take it this is on a landline, not a cell phone?
  • If it's less than 14 days since your MIL made the deal, she can cancel under the distance selling regulations. Or try her bank for a charge back if she paid by card. And ensure there is no agreement in place to renew every 12 months.

Hi all - my aunt received a suspicious call from an 0800 number from BC - Blocking Calls (who don't have any web presence).

£84 deducted from her account, and she cancelled her card afterwards.

However the box has arrived - we haven't plugged it in yet?

    Any ideas?
