BT Call blocking phones

  • I have just installed the BT8500 phone system, and I am getting used to it. I have even managed to retain the two handsfree handsets from my BT Synergy 4100 system (bought in 2006), meaning I now have a 4 handset system. I did have to manually transfer over 100 numbers from the old system to the new to avoid friends and family whose numbers were already stored having to go through the screening system.
The only difficulty I have encountered is that unanswered screened calls from legitimate callers do not seem to get put through to the answering machine.

We have moved my Mum in with us . She is 92 and has poor sight. When she lived on her own she was constantly getting cold callers, ppi etc.

At the moment she shares our telephone line which isnt working as sometimes she answers it before we get to it !..

We tried a mobile but she just cant handle the way the way they work..so we are going to give her our line but we need a way of blocking ALL calls except the ones she knows ( family, friends etc )

Anyone know a 'SIMPLE' way of doing this.
    Thanks

Anything based on trueCall technology, including the BT 8500 cordless phone, will do the job.

The unique thing about these units is that unknown callers have to pass a challenge.

BT 8500 providing she can see the screen and does not need a larger screen .

If you instead get a plug-in trueCall box, they do several versions with slightly different features to assist various people.

    Hello Folks

I'm getting a lot of automated calls on my landline. You know the type PPI & free boilers. One of the options towards the end of each message is to press 9 and this will get my number of their database.

I'm hesitant in pressing 9 as this will alert them to the fact that the number is "live". But if do press 9 will the calls stop?

    Look forward to any replies.

You've already picked up the phone so they know the number is live.

When I pick up the phone to an unknown number I don't say a word. I don't say "hello" or anything. An automated dialler will hang up. A friend will say "(my name)???" and may add "are you there?" at which time I'll speak.

If the automated dialler hears your voice the dialler will transfer the call to an operative who will speak to you.

Should have qualified this by saying that all the messages are on the answering machine so no I haven't picked up.

    No they won't stop.
Just hang up without pressing any keys. If the ansamachine picks up, so much the better.
