i dont know where to put my rant, so ive just come to this one, i keep having calls from this number 001881385138 and im getting really fed up repeating myself telling them that whoever they want is not on this number, but each time i start to say that theyve said they will take details off, they just cut the line. i dialled it today, and its an operated message telling me that its not a toll free number outside the united states, i dont want to pay for blocking numbers, although i havent rung sky yet to see if they charge, but the increasing times i get called, is just bloody annoying! lol

Well not much you can do if you don't want to pay .
The calls usually die off after a while but they have sold your number on as a live person at the end of the line .

I got caller display from Virgin and thought it was great as I could block calls from specific numbers on my BT6500 phone and never be bothered again.

    How wrong I was.

These devious people keep changing their number.
Same company but their number keeps changing.

I have filled up the 10 spaces my phone has.

I have blocked all unknown and not shown numbers.

Though it is fascinating to watch the display show a blocked number and not have the phone ring:rotfl:

That's why anything that is based purely on CLI is doomed to failure.

Additionally, by blocking all withheld numbers you will have blocked calls from doctors, hospitals and police and other people that you might want to hear from.

The only method that truly works is the trueCall system which issues a verbal challenge to unapproved callers and your phone doesn't ring until they complete the challenge. This is the system that is built into the BT8500 and BT8600 'Call Guardian' phones.

....but as in the previous post, many public bodies withhold numbers -our local major hospital and my doctor's surgery certainly do.
And from personal experience, many secretaries/receptionists will not leave messages on ansaphones!! :(
