BT Call blocking phones

Thanks all, glad it is not just me. Fortunately, I have never had any on my mobile... yet... perhaps I shouldn't have said that0

Does anyone else have a big problem with callers calling each day and night? I have registered with the TPS, but I still get stupid calls. They ALL ask for the same person, a Miss Killen or Amanda Killen. I even had a school call me to tell me my daughter was ill and to pick her up! I asked again and they said this is Mr Killen isn't it??!!!
We had nuisance calls before and ended up changing our number when my wife started getting obscene calls off someone at night. The same day we changed our number, we got PPI calls and other stupid calls worse than before. We changed it again and got just as much. We now say to them that they have the wrong number and hang up. Or if there is a delay when you pick it up, we hang up anyway. The TPS doesn't seem to of worked. This Killen person they ask for each time, has been asked for on the 3 numbers now. Is it the name the cold callers use?? Has anyone got any ideas how to stop them?0 -
TPS can only block UK companies that abide by its code .
Get yourself a BT 8500 phone .

I second the above posters recommendation.
I got a BT8500 about a month ago because of these sort of problems.
Our phone has been remarkably silent since!
You can programme in the numbers that you do want to come straight through and the rest can either be rejected or go to answerphone.0 -

I threatened to report them to TPS which I did but TPS couldn't find enough details and therefore claimed not to be able to stop the calls. Since then I've only had one call from this company so hopefully they have stopped. If not then I plan for every call to 'go and get' the person asked for and leave the receiver next to the radio/ CD player with modern classical music on loud for a long time and see if that makes a difference.0 -
I'll have a look at that phone, thanks. We have cordless phones though so I'll have to check. Borkid, I think your idea is great. Next time they call, I will tell them I will get Mrs Killen and can they please hold the line! I will then put the music on and go back to what I was doing and see if they are still there an hour later haha.0

Jessica - sounds more complex if a school has rung you. Could it be the same number but a different area code - where I live we are about 2 miles from the area code boundary and sometimes get calls from people who haven't used the area code or have used the wrong one. Unless it's a company clearly cold calling, I generally ask what number they think they've rung in case they have rung the right number in the wrong area. It could be an issue with the phone exchange possibly, but that's beyond my expertise.0

Oh dear, the correct and legal way is to simply say "please remove my details from your database" , putting the phone down, ignoring them or being abusive means your details remain on the database and get called again0

Kaya, its easier to say wrong number and hang up because you ask them how they got your details etc, and they ask for just a minute of your time to explain the pitfalls of PPI!! We all get the calls and I made the mistake of answering a question on double glazing and got another call saying that I agreed to getting my windows changed! Told them to do one! We still get calls from them and I have told them I am registered with the TPS, but they call back anyway!
Bigphil, I know what you mean, but I asked them the number they have called and it was ours, with the area code etc. I can only presume that someone called Killen once had that number and Virgin have given it to us when we asked for a new number. Thinking it might be better to get rid of the land line and just use mobiles. We don't get any spam texts or cold calls on that- at the moment!!0 -

...sounds great -but it simply doesn't work -I tried that approach when getting plagued with the "house insulation for free" calls -didn't work;tried it with the Solar panel installation firms -doesn't work!
I just ignore calls now;they either leave a message or I recognise the number when I dial 1471.:)0
