The BT 8500 and BT 8600 Call Guardian handsets include trueCall technology and work on any landline that has Caller ID.0

I am having a lot of nuisance calls despite using Telephone Preference and Talk Talk way of blocking calls.
I now intend to buy a call blocker Looking online BT8500 phone seems to be that deals with this and has got good reviews .
I understand that this may be Guardian? The other I see is True Call but this seems to be a seperate box.
My question is do I need to be using a BT telephone line to use this. Currently I have my telephone rental and calls with Talk Talk.
Advice and information would be appreciated. Thank you Sue0 -
It should work on all telephone lines I have the 8610 and it blocks all cold callers. I did have truecall box before that. I am with Plusnet which use BT lines so should Talk talk and many others.0

As long as you have Caller Identity enabled on the line, then the BT8500/8600 will work ok.0

There are two ways to get the trueCall system. One is to buy a trueCall box, the other is to get the BT 8500 or 8600 series Call Guardian handsets with trueCall built in. Both require CLI to be operational and all of them work on any UK landline, not just on BT lines.
The trueCall system issues a verbal challenge to unknown callers. Your phone doesn't ring until the challenge is completed. Most, if not all, cold callers simply hang up and your phone doesn't ring. You can add people to a known callers list to always accept, or always reject, their call. You can also issue people with a four-digit passcode to get round the verbal challenge and get straight through.
There is nothing else like this on the market.0 -
Thank you so much. I am getting as many as 10 nuisance calls a day. Not so many on a Saturday and none on a Sunday. I do have caller identidy as names and numbers come up on my telephone. I am so tired of it. Thanks again Sue0

I've had the BT8500 for over a year now, and not one of these nuisance calls has got through.0

What happens if people you want to speak to have withheld numbers, can the phone identify and make exceptions for these and so not block them?
BTW do any of these call blocking phones have provision for a plug in headset?0 -
Witheld numbers still cause the system to challenge the caller. If it's a genuine call they will answer the challenge and the phone will ring.
You can then chose to accept or reject the call.
I would hope that any bone fide body would be happy with being challenged.
I am only familiar with the BT 8500, which does not have a headphone socket.0
