What will happen to all of us Q and HD customers when Sky dump satellite access in a couple of years time ?
Will they give us rebates / refunds - because of losing the ability to record - being limited to a cheaper.
    streaming service ?
    I bet they don't !
And Sky are going to end up with a greatly reduced number of customers ("Freely" is FREE)

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

I would imagine that Sky would put a clause or something like that in the new contracts when people recontract for 24 months so they have way of not paying.

This is Sky of course we are on about so who knows apart from them.

I thought it was 2029 whether Sky satellite contracts end?

You may be correct - Its definitely within a few years !
How many non streaming customers does Sky currently have ?
As of April 2018, Sky Q had approximately 3.6 million customers in the UK, Ireland, and Italy. The number of customers may have increased since then, but specific current figures are not available.
I estimate 6 million for no reason other than I like 6

No interest in streaming from Sky. If they close the sat offering I'll leave. I'm a sat fan though and my Wavefrontier sat dish has LNBs pointed at 28east for Sky UK, 19east for German TV (plenty of darts on) plus a few others (had my dish for almost 20 years and it's served me way cheaper than Sky subscriptions).

Personally I find sat more reliable than streaming. Also if you can live with German commentary and don't watch UK football then you'll probably save a lot of money.

yeh streaming isnt for me either, the delay is ridiculous, especially for sports, heard it can be up to 35-40 seconds behind, thats hopeless for me

I assume Sky Sports+ games that are not on the main channel are streamed as I've seen some buffering.
  • Hi, so I have given notice to terminate my Sky Q package after 10 years. It’s set to cancel on 4th September.

    My current package is:

    ·         Sky Signature

    ·         Sky Sports

    ·         Sky Cinema

    ·         HD/UHD

    ·         Multiscreen

Price set to increase to £107.50! Hence the cancellation. Ideally, I would like to keep the same package and my Netflix deal has now ended so would like to add standard or premium to my deal as I have read about peoples successes adding these to their packages. Do you think I could get a better deal than the £59 they are offering with Netflix (with ads)? I was going to give them an opportunity to keep me as customer in my last week of cancellation, but I have read letting it cancel for the day is the best way to get a better deal. Any help would be appreciated.

I suspect losing satellite broadcasting could be an existential threat to Sky, and I don't think I'm exaggerating. They prey on the lethargy of their customers, but come the time where people have to move to a streaming service, they will lose a significant number.

But if people want a legit way of watching pay sports TV then they will have no option but to go on the stream platform.

Virgin media are going the same way and as are BT/EE .

2029 sometime the satellite goes off so it will be interesting to see what contracts Sky offer in 2027 and if they insert a get out of jail card regarding no satellite signal on Q or HD+ after 2027.
  • Need some advice please good people, this is my next bill, feel I'm getting fleeced here... those 'offer end dates' were ones that Sky just added, I'm out of contract for both BB and TV basically...I thought £153 was bad, but going to £173 and then £182!!
