Thanks, interesting to see what they will offer me the closer I get to the end of my cancellation period and I'm wondering whether loyalty actually gets you deals like they did in the past. We shall see.

Will be really interested to see, I'm going to push the cancellation button this week.

Interestingly just speaking to a sky engineer this morning - he said just be prepared to go right to the end, and if all fails live without it for a day or two and get your wife to take it out as a new customer! He also recommended staying with Q over Stream for as long as possible!

Loyalty gets you nothing with Sky. It just shows them how long a customer has been fleeced for.
Someone who's been with them for 6 years can end up with a better deal than someone who's been with them 26 years for exactly the same package. It's entirely random and depends on who you speak to and what deals are available.
There is no concrete method to getting a decent deal any more. Sky's sales and customer service departments are a shadow of their former selves. More and more of it is farmed off-shore and the customer churn rate is higher than it's ever been.
The TV industry is in a transitional period and more people than ever are realising that the content they want to watch is available elsewhere for less money. The Sky TV 'service' no longer has the value it once had.
Those who don't like change and don't want to switch to streaming, whether it be with Sky or independently, are the ones who now pay way over the odds for the quickly becoming obsolete satellite service.
Sky will happily still sell you it, knowing full well that they are fleecing you.

That is very interesting, thanks for the heads up.

I really want to know what will happen to the millions of Sky recording boxes (Q and HD) when Sky do finally dump satellite links ?
Will they come up with a proper recording function on a "streaming" service - I don't see why not - because Fibre connections can cope with the data speed............
    Any comments ?

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

If fibre can cope, then there is no need for recording, as everything can be consumed on demand.

And media companies like the content control streaming provides them, so they can better monetise it.

So, I believe corporate profitability will force consumers to a streaming only model (and increase dodgy firestick use) and the ability to record will be a niche sector.

Since Sky owns the Sky Q boxes, I'd like to think they'll find a way to recycle them.

So there will be no way to skip adverts - or hold favourites for longer than Sky dictate ?

Exactly. Just like Paramount+ (if you have it via Sky) or the Netflix or Apple+ with ads packages. Recording with the ability to fast forward through adverts was seriously diminishing broadcasters advertising revenue, and a move to streaming allows them to reverse that, either via no FF ability via a basic package, or added subscription revenue via an ad-free package.

Even at the moment, you can only watch any Sky recordings for as long as you have the package that provided that broadcast.

But that way a 44 minute programme will take up about an hour of your time.
No thanks. I'd rather record and skip the ads.
