I have been with sky for 17 years and my price had steadily risen paying £86 for mutli room, sports, movies HD uhd, kids and Netflix premium and due to increase to over 130 next month

Phoned up and offered the above for £84 with a Netflix downgrade. They were more bothered about trying to sell me broadband.

Put the cancellation in and recieved the following email

    Signature sports and movies £47.50
    HD uhd £6
    Kids £3
    Multi room £10
    Ultimate tv £4.50

Is this likely to improve if it disconnects?

I have just had a call from sky asking why I was leaving which I said cost it's just too expensive, to which the lady replied OK no.problem and thanks for your time, I was expecting some offer!

I cancelled over the phone today, they offered:

    Signature - £24.50
    Sports - £22.00
    HD - £7.00

    £53.50

I was paying £45.50 before the price rise in April and it's going to £80.50 next month. They did say I wouldn't have to pay the admin charge as I'm a 'VIP customer'.

I still told them to cancel as I think that's too much.
I got a letter in the post offering:

Sky Signature & Sports for £40.50

+ Ultra HD and HD £6.00
    + Sky Cinema £7.00
    + TNT Sports £30.00
    + Ultimate TV £4.50
    + Multiscreen £10.00

I never responded to it then on the day before the cancellation I rang them to see what their best offer was and they gave me:

I'm now paying £1 less than I was the year before for the same package.

Called Sky today to renegotiate/cancel, and had a weird experience, unlike any before.

23 years Diamond VIP (though fully cancelled in the past, most recent contract seemed to undo a reset)

18m contract expired for: Sky Signature, Cinema, HD, UHD, Netflix Premium
Expired agreement: £33pm; April hike: £39.50

Called retentions to discuss renewing/cancelling. Explained my contract prior to this one was £25pm for all 5 items, and was hoping to renew in this ballpark.

He said there was no point in him discussing anything with me as I wasn't going to get a price like that.
He followed, that Sky raises their prices each year, and extremely condescendingly, explained to me that the current year was 2024.

I said the price hikes can be rather unfair, as the services have remained the same.

He argued this was untrue, that Sky's services include free Paramount Plus and Vue tickets, so the price rises are justified.

I responded that these offerings are marketed as "gifts/rewards" separate to packages. And they aren't useful for many customers like myself, and that I wouldn't expect the cost of these "free gifts" to be built into the costs of the services I actually want and that I'm willing to pay for.

He remained completely silent here, lol. So I tried to get the conversation on the right track, and said my current contract was £33pm and that I wouldn't want to exceed that.

He then proceeded to simply read the cancellation terms! No response, no discussion, no negotiation, no haggling, no offers! I was really surprised!

When he was done, I enquired about Sky Essentials, £15pm, and forget budging on the price - he wasn't even willing to have a discussion about lowering the price!

A very weird experience. There were moments where this operator was rude and condescending and so I'm glad I politely challenged some statements, even if it wasn't optimal for negotiation.

All in all, my Sky TV is being cancelled and I've no clue what discounts are being offered to existing customers for these packages.

OK I am considering removing my HD subscription - I still would get Terrestrial HD as well as Sky Sports on HD - But would save £9 per month
Would I miss HD ? £108 pa - not to be sneezed at ....
Cancel it - depending on your tier you should receive offers for it e.g free for 2-4 months for both UHD and HD. I cancelled mine last week and immediately via deals section on sky website received offers for both. Both HD and UHD are rolling options not 18 month deals so you can turn it on/off with 31 days notice should you change your mind

Can I ask please-  I cancelled Sky TV subscription via online chat and gave them 31 days notice, they have given me a date for cancellation, at least 3 advisors have seperately confirmed this via live chat, however my future bills are still showing full price and nothing seems to have changed online wrt the cancellation. They keep saying it will change in 48-72 hours but never does. Has it changed immediately after cancellation for anyone else or do you think I am being fobbed off about the cancellation? Many thanks

    @gamma

I would personally stick with what you have for the price etc

    Alternatively

1 - cancel HD/UHD as you can get it 2-4 months for free - see my previous post

2 - call back on fridays as offers are typically refreshed then

live chat is also becoming worse too - giving us supposed ''deals'' that are actually few quid more expensive then what we were on previously

I would suggest ringing up and checking as some advisors either by mistake or 'conveniently' forget to leave notes on the system. Also check your sky email for any confirmation email re cancellation too

When I gave cancellation notice it showed on my account straight away, future billing was correct and I received an email confirming. If you haven't had a confirmation email then you definitely need to chase Sky. I've heard of a few others who have had this issue and it's ridiculous that Sky can't even let you cancel when you want to. Sounds like the original advisor hasn't put it through properly.

This is what Sky have been like for a while now, certainly since Comcast took them over. Customers seem to get offered slightly more than they'd been paying and often the better deals don't appear until after your services have switched off, even then they are not always fantastic. I can only think it's because they know a lot give cancellation notice with no real intention of leaving, will panic and accept almost anything. Since I returned my Q box I'm now being sent reasonable offers in the post, it's too late though as its been 2 months without Sky and we don't miss it. Also the attitude of some Sky staff when I was trying to sort my last contract contributed to me wanting to leave them this year.
  • There's a deal floating around for those who've previously cancelled Sky Stream. You can get 12 months half price Entertainment and Netflix on the 31 day contract for £15.50pm.
Ring them up and tell them you want this deal but can't activate it online.
Remember you need to have fast broadband of 30Mbps+ in order for Stream to work. The Stream pucks are pretty slow and I don't really recommend them, but if you can't have a dish and want Sky channels then this is a pretty good deal. Includes basic Discovery+ too and you can get free UHD/Atmos and free ad-skipping by repeating the free deals they offer you in the MySky app.
