I’m currently paying £110.50 for my Sky package (up from £103 in April) and my contract will expire 14 June 2024.  Really not sure how it crept up so high but obviously, it’s a huge monthly cost. I also pay approx £43 for TNT Sports (already out of contract) and Disney+ just renewed at £109.90 for another year  (even though nobody in the house watches it).

I’m on a mission to get the monthly cost down.

    The individual breakdown is:

    Sky Signature: £31.50

    Netflix Ultimate: £8.00

    Sky Sports HD: £30.00

    Sky Cinema: £13.00

    Sky HD: £9.00

    Multiscreen: £15.00

    Ultra HD: £4.00

I’ve looked at my previous bills when I renewed my contract, It was £95 per month which looking back now, seems a bit high.

My TNT Sports package is £42.99:

    TNT Sports: £30.99

    HD: £6.00

    Multiroom: £6.00

Looking through the Sky offers, it appears that TNT Sports / Discovery+ is much cheaper through them (£27) as they don’t charge extra for HD or multiroom.

So, I can’t do much until 14 May but understand that unless they give me a decent offer, I need to give them 31 days notice in order to get better offers from the retention team.  Admittedly, I don’t want to leave as the house is all wired up with the Sky Q and mini boxes but I’m currently paying over £150 per month which is too much.  What do you reckon is a good monthly price target with all of the above included and are there any other tips you can advise in negotiating the price down?  I’m also a VIP Platinum customer of over 10 years if that makes any difference.

    Many thanks

I would suggest give 31 day notice to cancel, once the tv is fully switch off contact them they will do everything for approx £70 a month  to £80 a month

I got my dates wrong and tried to cancel a day early so I'm phoning back tomorrow.  That said, I got an offer from the retention team which didn't sound too bad but if it's their first offer, I'm not convinced.

    Signature: £24.50 (£36.50)
    Netflix Ultimate: £11.50 (£15.50)
    HD £5 (£9)
    UHD £1 (£4)
    Sky Sports £23 (£35)
    Cinema £10 (£19)
    Multiroom £11 (£15)

    Total cost = £86 (£110.50)

+ optional TNT £27 (£42.99).  This has already been cancelled from BT so will definitely save on this by buying through Sky as I'm not charged extra for HD or multiroom twice.

Most of it is ok and pretty much in line with other deals but the Sky Sports is the deal breaker.  I've seen it as low as £8 but it was suggested to perhaps wait until August as good offers are usually available for the start of the new season.  The guy was pretty helpful and said that deals change on Fridays and I may get it cheaper by a different team but nothing is guaranteed.

I'll see what they say tomorrow and hold out for my price target of £70 / £75. I think that sounds achievable but what do you guys think? If that means giving notice and going through the whole ball ache of doing without for a few weeks, I'll do that .... no matter how much the kids and missus complain :)
I got busy with work but found the time to follow up on my call last week.  My best offer last week was £86 and now it's £88.  I've now cancelled so let's see how this plays out?  The prices just seem so random from customer to customer....

Watch out for emails from Sky threatening early termination charges if you've cancelled or are switching your Sky broadband elsewhere. Despite advising them of such and even moving within 30 days of their email (not strictly needed according to their wording) they sent me an email within an hour of VM turning my new service on today.

Righto so I wanted to share my experience of haggling with sky. This was by and far and away the most difficult year to get a decent discount out of them in my experience. Hopefully this helps someone else.

Cancellation went in late March, i was offered on the phone:

    Signature - £24.50
    Cinema - £10.00
    Sports HD - £24.00
    HD - £5.00
    UHD - £2.00
    Multiscreen - £7.00
    Kids - £3.00
    Netflix Standard - £6.00

    Total £81.50 - I declined

Phone call from Sky a couple of weeks later asking me why I was cancelling, I explained price etc, they asked if anyone had made me an offer. I explained they had but it was too much. They then explained boxes to return the equipment were being sent out.

Email offer - best of which was:

    Signature + Cinema + Sports - £47
    HD + UHD - £6.00
    Multiscreen - £10.00
    Kids - £3.00
    Netflix Basic w/ adverts - £4.50

    Total £70.50 - Ignored

Chat offer 3 weeks into cancellation didn't bother writing it down.

    Total was £79.99

Out of contract, boxes had arrived I rang the number on the box final offer was:

    Signature - £20.00
    Cinema - £8.00
    Sports HD - £14.00
    HD - £4.00
    UHD - £2.00
    Multiroom - £5.00
    Kids - £3.00
    Netflix Premium - £15.50

    Total £71.50 + £30 credit - Accepted
  • I have given my 31 days notice to cancel my Sky subscription and the cancellation is due to happen tomorrow.

Yesterday I received a text message to call 03337594451 if I still wanted to keep watching sky. So I called the number and was offered the following deal which I have not yet accepted:

    Sky Signature - £21.50
    Netflix Premium - £11.50
    Sky Sports - £19.00
    Sky HD - £4.00
    Ultra HD - £2.00
    Multiscreen - £10.00
    Total - £68.00

Should I accept or let the package cancel and wait to hear from the Win back Team?

I have just renewed my contract  2 weeks ago as I cancelled my contract 4 months before renewal so was in cancel pending until sept then I managed to negotiate on the come back to sky chat the following

    Sky Signature £18.50
    Netflix Premium £11.50
Sky Sports Complete with HD £13
    Sky Cinema £13
    HD £4
    UHD £0.33

    Total £60.33

So there is a comparison to what you been offered to make a decision. 🤷🏻

Ultimately the decision is yours but personally speaking, I'd never have called them back. They're just seeing how serious you are about leaving. Let it turn off and see what they do. I suspect that even your attempts at looking at your messages or offers will be flagged on their systems.

Is it still necessary to have marketing switched on to get any offers through before/after switch off? I suppose at the minimum there's the number to call on the Sky Q packaging even if not. Going by this thread I'll need to push them all the way in a few months. Fortunately have got the aerial sorted so have Freeview & catch up as a back up.

Yes, you'll be best advised to have all marketing turned on. You can always change them again later on.

@Dk06ctr are you able to share a screen shot from your account to help me haggle with sky?

My sky package has cancelled today. So do I now wait to get the boxes to send back the Sky Q boxes? At what stage does Sky now call to win me back? Any experience from others who have gone through this process would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks.
