My Sky subscription is due mid-June.  Cant stand the whole haggling these days , with the annoying 'well your saving £200 already'  (based on a ridiculous charge that nobody probably pays ).

Can they still enforce this rip off once a year rise,  based on inflation plus 3% (or similar ) ?
Im sur3e I read the Govenment were planning on clamping down on it.

  • I have given my 31 days notice to cancel my Sky subscription and the cancellation is due to happen tomorrow.

Yesterday I received a text message to call 03337594451 if I still wanted to keep watching sky. So I called the number and was offered the following deal which I have not yet accepted:

    Sky Signature - £21.50
    Netflix Premium - £11.50
    Sky Sports - £19.00
    Sky HD - £4.00
    Ultra HD - £2.00
    Multiscreen - £10.00
    Total - £68.00

Should I accept or let the package cancel and wait to hear from the Win back Team?
I accepted the following 18 month deal after going through cancellation and speaking to Sky Return Back Team:

    Sky Signature - £20.00
    Netflix Standard - £10.50
Sky Sports Complete Pack with Sky Sports HD- £16.00
    Sky HD - £5.00
    Ultra HD - £2.00
    Multiscreen - £5.00
    Total - £58.50

£10 admin fee waived and £30 one-off credit to be applied to my account. 23 years Diamond VIP member reinstated (for whatever it is worth). The recorded programmes on the Sky 2TB box are also all still there. Note that the 18 month contract only applies to Sky Signature, Sky Sports and Multiscreen.

Hope this helps anyone negotiating with Sky.

Of course they can't 'enforce' it, unless of course you sign up with them and agree to the T&C's. Good luck in finding any paid service that doesn't seem to have it dialled in nowadays though.

The big difference was that not only did they introduce this 'inflation plus 3%' , the fact that it was now in your contract meant you didnt have the option to leave mid-contract because they have increased the prices. Briefly reading through those documents , it seems Ofcom want providors like Sky to have a fixed price increase in contracts instead of percentages ?

Thanks Looking4deals for your prices. Im going to make sure Netflix is not on a fixed contract if I stay with Sky, as got screwed over with having Sky Movies that way, then realised Id watche dall I wanted too after couple of months.
Well done for getting a credit applied as well.. Ive had BT do that a few times, but struggle with Sky , despite being with them since 1992 !

  • My Sky Q ended today.
I am considering a new 2Tb Freesat box (not Humax)
Has anyone ditched sky for a Freesat recordable box? What are your experiences?

You're aware that they use the same satellites that Sky do (I think), that means that they have a very limited life span left.

Well bit the bullet and cancelled.  Over chat the other day they offered £64 for the same package (I pay £55 now) but this offer came with the Netflix with ads package, the one I have now is no ads but Netflix seems to have adjusted prices now to £10.50 no ads and £4.50 with ads.  Called Retentions today but best offer was £74 with the £10.50 Netflix package or £68 with the £4.50 Netflix package, which is more than they offered Live Chat other day!!  So it's a case of who blinks first as with no working aerial I need a box.  Sad really as I said if they would do same package for £60 I'd sign up but they aren't budging.  It's first time in 25 years they haven't offered me a cheaper deal than I was paying previously.

Anyone experienced Netflix with ads?  Prime changed theirs to ads and to be honest it's not a problem as it's one ad pre show and one during, better than terrestrial.

The satellites are run by different companies, all separate from Sky/Comcast. The BBC were happy subsidising the purchase of Freesat equipment in the last year, you can take that as a sign something will be emitted from them for a good while yet.
