Sky TV retention deals ( post your haggling successes )

I think the 'model' is pretty simple:brewerdave said:
My son in law (who has always been regarded as the ace negotiator in the family! ) contacted Sky yesterday to discuss a new deal. He struggled to get anything out of the agent - seemed quite happy to let him go - in the end he chopped off Cinema and Kids to keep the price for TV packages about the same and as nothing was offered on his Ultrafast b/band, left that alone._bishbashbosh said:It wouldn't have made any difference as I'm determined to go, but does make you wonder if they are trying to phase out SkyQ in favour of Sky Stream.
Glass/ Stream weren't even mentioned! He intends to look for a better deal on his broadband and move the service provided he can get a better deal elsewhere.
There must be a lot of subscribers happy to pay £120+ pm for Sky as they really seem to be happy to accept higher levels of churn to avoid discounting.
- some customers don't want any hassle and will just pay whatever Sky ask for;
- some customers want some kind of deal, but aren't fussed about getting the best deal (from what I understood from your post, your SIL is in this category).
- some customers want the very best deal - both Sky and these customers know that the one and only hoop to jump through to get this is to cancel, let the services be cut off, then get the very best deal from the Win Back team.
I guess you could insert one more before the last one - people who cancel, have a cancellation date, but accept a new deal a few days before the cancellation happens - they won't get the best deal, but they will get a better deal than the top 2 categories above.
Then I assume Sky just adjust the deals regularly to keep the numbers in each category as near as possible to what they want them to be. (They have enough customers to pretty accurately predict the elasticity I expect).
It makes me laugh when people say things like 'everyone should get the same price' - that's obviously ridiculous, if Sky can get £150pm from someone easily, why would they sell the product to them cheaper? Equally, if someone else is prepared to leave unless the price is as low as £50pm (and in many cases actually proves it by leaving), then if Sky can still make a profit, why wouldn't they do that deal for £50pm via Win Back team? Basically there are lots of lazy people who want cheaper prices but don't want to put in the effort - for me, the current model is perfect, the more effort you make (with actually leaving being the 'top' effort), the cheaper price you get.

Received email from sky , they are keeping me on my discounted price for another year without contract extension0

I think SkyVIP offers are rubbish - I am Diamond but if Sky offered me a 50p per month discount & no status - I’d take it!PeanutRuby said:When you cancelled and rejoined after 2 weeks, did you lose your SkyVIP years and have to start at zero again ?0 -
Can anyone please let me know where I find the ‘Chat’ facility?
Thank you0 -
I've been on the text chat with them today and ended up with a deal which wasn't as good as above, but I'm happy with it. I couldn't be bothered cancelling, I just wanted it sorted. It's what I was paying several years ago.

Nearly £60 for that without UHD, Netflix and Cinema, think you have been mugged here.chrisw said:I've been on the text chat with them today and ended up with a deal which wasn't as good as above, but I'm happy with it. I'd keep an eye on your future bills in your account. This sounds like the standard email Sky send to everyone towards the end of the contract, it only shows the so called savings, not the full price before the discounts or total amount you'll be paying. It is also worded in a way that makes it sound like you've got a good deal.deanos said:Received email from sky , they are keeping me on my discounted price for another year without contract extension
There's a thread on here about it https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6472463/sky-price-increase-letter-avoiding-giving-me-the-actual-new-price#latest0 -
Maybe. I got them to remove UHD as I've been paying it for years and never used it but i still have Netflix basic. I hate doing this sort of thing but I'm happy with it anyway so I can stop worrying about it for the next 18 months.jojaca said:

As per my post a couple of pages ago, it does depend on each individual and what they want vs the effort they are prepared to make. If someone wants minimal effort / fuss, then calling and accepting a deal offered is at least much better than just paying the standard prices that many people still pay. The benefits of cancelling etc are of course better, but require more time, more calls, more negotiating etc, and not everyone can be bothered with that. If you're happy with what you've got vs the time you've spent on it, that's the main thing.chrisw said:
