The thing that puzzles me about sky and their prices is that they don't seem to give any reward for signing up to an 18 month contract,ie long commitment.
I left sky at the end of last year and now just get any of their programmes I want via NOW. It means i can just choose per month what to watch but i'm actually paying less with NOW with much more flexibility than a long term sky commitment. Now offer constant offers so you hardly,if ever, pay full price.
If anyone is looking at what they pay i'd look at the annual cost,as opposed to just monthly.
I'll save quite a bit by having the option to cancel the subscription,eg when on holiday etc - something not available under an 18 month contract.

People absorb the price rises because of the fear of change and the effort needed to sort out an alternative provider, its human nature I’m afraid.

The way I approached it on renewal in December was to assume I would be facing a price rise of at least £3 on the then deal price of £25+. So when I "negotiated" with my ISP ,I suggested that I was looking for a price around £20, ~ £5 cheaper than I was paying. Actually got a deal @ £22 for 18 months which means that ,with the horrendous 14.4% increase, I'm actually paying slightly less than last year (altho' won't be able to do anything about next Spring's increase!)

Managed to convince my elderly parents to switch to now tv after the pathetic offers I was given by sky now just to research what type of device would be appropriate as they don’t have smart tvs fire stick seems to be littered with ads so it’s down to either a now tv box, roku or similar streaming device.

There shouldn’t be any ads on a Firestick.  All it does is make your non smart tv, smart.  You download the now tv app and use that.  You can pay now for boost which gives Hd quality and no ads.  Always go through the thinking of cancelling portion of their website once your deal ends as you usually get another offer before you ultimatel Press cancel

My Firestick doesn’t have ads, you just download any apps onto it you need and login to those.

Pretty similar to mine. I had everything you have apart from Kids for £56 which went up to £59 last April. I cancelled on 4th March. No offers since then other than an SMS with the reviewyouroptions link. When I contacted them on chat, the best they could offer was as below (£78.50) which I declined:

    - Sky Signature base pack £23 {£11 off} [standard price : £34] (new 18 min months contract)

    - Sky Sports complete pack £15 {£19 off it's a dependency offer with sky cinema if you drop cinema the sports price will increase} [standard price : £34] (new 18 min monthscontract

    - Sky Cinema £12 {£7 off} [standard price : £19]

    - Sky HD £6.50 {£2.50 off} [standard price : £9] (no contract)

    - Sky UHD £3 {£1 off} [standard price : £4] (no contract)

    - UTV AO {Netflix} £7

    - Multiscreen £12 {£3 off} [standard price : £15] (new 18 min months contract)

This will sum up your bill £78.50 pm with an admin fee of £20 added to your next bill.

  • thanks I'll post if I get something decent offered.
  •  Bill has gone from £70 to £108. Used live chat over a number of week and got nothing below £80. Told them to cancel the lot. A month to go, will see what I get back

Day 38 without Sky and I'm still not missing it. Received an offer today for Signature, Sports and Cinema - £43. If you factor in HD+UHD, Multiscreen, Kids and Ultimate, it's not much less than what I was paying before.

With the level of diversity out there for viewing habits, Sky are not dangling a big enough carrot for me. Their Q boxes will be sent back before long, once that's happened I will not be turning back.
