Anyone else finding it really difficult to negotiate with Sky this year? Have always done it at the end of my contract, but this year will not budge.
    Previously paying £47 p/m for:
    Sky Signature
    Sky Kids
    Sky Sports Complete
    Sky HD
    Sky UHD
    Sky Multiscreen

For the same package they want £65. I am due to be cut off in 2 days and still getting pathetic offers, even the people in retentions tell me the deals aren't very good, no hard sale to keep me or anything!!

Well, I decided I didn't like their price increases, so I called and scaled back; I
    • removed Sky Ultimate broadband,
    • removed Netflix,
    • removed multiroom.
That leaves me with a basic Sky package and HD on my Sky Q box.
Broadband was turned off on Monday; coincidentally there was an outage of my other BB supplier on Tuesday - ain't that sod's law!
I've had a notification that they'll be sending me packaging for return of my BB router and my extension Sky Q box. (I'll be sure to take pictures of sending, to cover receipt issues.)
I haven't had a call from the retentions people, but that's OK; curiously, I've just seen that Sky multiroom is now on offer for £7.50/month; if they'd run that by me before, I might've kept it.

I think Sky are taking a lot tougher position in their negotiations this year, if people don’t get, what they consider to be a good deal, they will vote with their feet.

Once people have left Sky they may never return as there are other options out there now

I think you're right but really, who cares what sky think. It's not as though they are doing us all a favour.
As you say there are lots of other options out there - they can take as tough a stance as they want but if they aren't offering value, they will be the ones who lose out.
They need to retain customers much more than customers need to stay with them.
An existing customer paying them even a heavily discounted monthly amount will still provide them with more income than someone who leaves altogether.
Sky's own costs are pretty much  all upfront to them, which they then need to recoup through subscriptions and as many as possible.

Comcast think the British public are fools. Perhaps some are but not enough to keep them afloat with extortionate subscription fees. It's not like it was pre streaming when Sky was the only option for the best tv. Sky's days are numbered unless they start offering value. Not long until I'm cut off now with no reasonable offers forthcoming. Given that there are other better value options, it doesn't even bother me.
  • Ultimately, I hate to see people being ripped off. I know many people will visit this forum when their contract is up. I implore everyone who reads this, unless the offer is reasonable and competitive, JUST SAY NO

100% agree. There are enough content providers out there nowadays, and if enough people baulk at paying full price for what feels to me an increasingly sub-standard offering, it can cause policy change in pricing.

Unfortunately if you are a sports nut, Sky/BT have you by the proverbial b**ls; until Amazon or others start getting serious about mainstream sports then there are no real alternatives to negotiating with them for the best deal you can manage to drag out of them.

People absorb the price rises because of the fear of change and the effort needed to sort out an alternative provider, its human nature I’m afraid.
