  • Cancelled our sky package after 17 years of being a loyal customer back in September. Six weeks on and we have not missed Sky Sports, Movies or Signature, we have found plenty of good quality TV to watch on both Freeview and Netflix. The only thing that we missed was the ability to pause, rewind and record which our Q box gave us. I have now contacted Sky and agreed to pay £5 per month for 12 months to retain our Q box for a package that they call Essential TV which means that we can still pause, rewind and most importantly record Freeview. If this is of any interest to others, please note that Sky initially state that the Essentials deal is £15 month but if you ask it is possible to get it for £5 month. Please note that the £5 month does not include multi-room, so I have had to return my Mini box.

They did offer me the Essentials deal for £5 a month but I've dug out the Humax which can record 2 channels, pause etc. That said the Sky Q picture on our OLED is excellent, not so much on freeview through the aerial. Anyway I've had the e mail stating they want the SkyQ box back and are sending packaging. I guess getting that back in their hands puts them in a much stronger position for any future deals.... they want their box back lol

Thanks for this. Do you get to watch channels in HD with Essentials? And which channels do you get, please?

Put in cancellation on the 29th of September.

    Deal offered was the following:

    Sky Signature £19

    Sky Ultimate TV £6

    Kids £3

    HD £4

    UHD £2

    Disney £7.99

    Complete Sports £14

    Multiroom £11

    Total £66.99

I declined, had a call trying to win me back last week, they couldn’t beat it (apparently). I have no real reference. Conscious of price rise probably around April. Was paying £60.99. Want to keep under £60 ideally!

From what I can tell (heard similar from others) Sky are offering renewal prices for slightly more than we currently pay after we put cancellation in. I’m being offered £48 on the phone and £51 on live chat for the below, I’ve been paying £44 but as you’ve mentioned there will be an April price increase which could add a lot. I also told them I was happy to drop Cinema nearer the cut off date so funnily enough the Cinema renewal cost is now only £6 instead of the £12 I was paying. I’ve stopped contacting them as every offer I’m emailed ends up being more than it seems (hidden HD charges), I’ve also been told they can’t see my offers because I’ve given notice so I have to stop the cancellation then put it in again if needed (this is complete nonsense), the offers get worse nearer the cut off date not better and as I turned down £48 it’s now £51 (again this is rubbish, and if it is the cancellation can go through as far as I’m concerned anyway). I’ve got a phone call booked with the retention team who supposedly offer the best deals a week before my cut off date but I’m not accepting just anything they offer. There will be much better deals if you really want to keep Sky and are happy for it to switch off for a short while. If you have Q and need to return the box they told me you have 2 months to do so anyway.
    My current package:
    Signature
    full Sports
    Sports HD
    Cinema
    Ultimate TV Add on (Netflix)
    HD
    UHD

Just an Update, I have renewed after waiting until the day after cancellation, and speaking to the Win back team.

    Sky Signature £19
    Sky Ultimate TV £5
    Sky Kids £2
    HD £4
    UHD £4
    Disney £7.99
Sky Sports - Complete Pack £10
    Sky Sports HD £2
    Multiroom £5

    Total £58.99

    Added

Sky Cinema (+ Paramount+) £12 Sky Sports came down to £4

    New Total £64.99

Don’t know if it’s a good offer but I was happy, as it was what my budget was … hopefully it gives someone a hand negotiating.

Definitely let the cancellation go through, they just wouldn’t budge beforehand. VIP doesn’t get cancelled unless contract has lapsed for a long while….

& who knows I’ll be right at the end of the cooling off period when they will probably announce Black Friday Offers…

Any decent offers for joining Sky Glass around at present of for Black Friday?
  • Managed to cancel my sub that ends in Jan 2023 and paid £19.xx for the privilege of cancelling on Dec 3rd 2022. Good riddance.

Always seek a deal - tell them you are thinking of leaving as better deal from x/y/ and z and finding it too expensive -  8/10 you will get a better offer but if you speak to one that is not prepared to move, put the phone down and call again - works for us.

When you say "let the cancellation go through", do you mean giving 31 days' notice or do you mean waiting for the notice period to expire including the collection of old boxes?
I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

After the 31 days notice. To put it simply, I did not have a Sky contract when I got the best offer.
