I had a letter back from Vodafone saying the price increase doesn't effect me even though I had a text message from them. Should I just wait until
October when my contract finishes or pursue this further?
Are you likely to exceed your inclusive allowance for calling numbers starting 01, 02, 03, 071-075 and 077-079?

Are you likely to call landline or mobile numbers in CI or IoM?

Are you likely to call premium rate numbers starting 070, 084, 087, 09 or 118?

If not, then there is no need to do anything.

There were 2 versions of the text and link, one was advising of the price increase, the other advised of the price increase and said you could leave. Depends which version you received.

This is the email I got the other day lets hope it goes through ok.

Thank you for your time over call.

I’ve raised a request of 30 day notice for cancellation of your number and it will be cancelled on 07/Aug/2016. I'll call your wife as per your request and resovle the issue for her account as well.

Further please click here to submit a unlock request for your handset. You will not be charged the cancellation fees.

    Thanks

Looks like Vodafone are confused or just trying to wring he last few pennies out of people. Once the prices go up you should be allowed to leave, there is no reason to keep to 30 days, that's to give notice but not when the contract has been repudiated.
  • I've still not had any contact from Vodafone after my letter last week, so I've just had a live chat with them. The transcript follows:

Jordan N: Hi, you’re speaking to Jordan one of Vodafones retention’s specialist. Can I start by taking your name please?

    Mark: Hi, It's Mark

Jordan N: Hi Mark, I see you are wishing to cancel free of charge due to the increase is this correct?

Mark: Yes. I wrote a letter to your head office as requested last week, I have proof of delivery and I've not heard anything yet.

Jordan N: We do advise up to 30 days to hear back from them as they are really busy Mark.

Mark: That would normally be fine. However the reason for cancelling is because Vodafone are increasing charges above the RPI and that goes up on the 23rd July. Surely if the cancellation goes beyond that then it'll be of material detriment to me, which is my whole reason for requesting my PAC code and to leave free of charge in the first place.

Jordan N: If I set the account to cancel and produce you a PAC code you will be charged as it has not been approved yet Mark.

Jordan N: You have proof of when you sent the letter and that date is before the 23rd.

Mark: Well, I don't want to be charged. It was Vodafone who say that I can leave without charge.

    Mark: Yes, I have proof.

Jordan N: In order to be able to cancel for free you will have to wait and hear back from the letter Mark. I can not cancel a contract free of charge.

Mark: Ok. So it'll take up to 30 days?

Jordan N: Yes that is correct Mark.

Mark: So what happens when I get charged the inflated prices through no fault of my own?

Mark: Can Vodafone legally do that?

Jordan N: That would be something you would need to speak to our services regarding Mark I am only cancellations.

Mark: Ok, Are you able to ask them to contact me quicker?

Jordan N: I am not Mark, I can only transfer you to them or you can dial 191.

Mark: Ok, when I call 191, who do I need to speak to? There are so many options and not all of them are clear.

Jordan N: Our customer service department.

Mark: Do you happen to know which options they are on the 191 system?

Jordan N: Option 3 and then option 3 Mark.

Mark: Thank you. I'l give them a call now.

Jordan N: Ok Mark, is there anything else I can assist you with?

    Mark: Not at the moment.

    Mark: Thanks

Banks no longer use 084 or 087 numbers. FCA regulations effective 26 October 2015 require the use of 01, 02, 03 or 080 numbers. Check their official website for the new number.

Stop !!!!ing in the wind. They will look at what you have used and extrapolate the new costs accordingly. What you do after the horse has bolted is completely irrelevant.
