I have 2 sim only deals ending in December and 6 months into a 24th month contract with a lg g4 phone. Anyone know what happens to the lg phone, if I terminate my contract? Assume they will ask for it back, think I read in small print, that the phone belongs to Vodafone until contract is fulfiled.

@anthdci it would be worth sending that letter as soon as possible. The web page linked from the Vodafone text message, sent to customers affected, states unambiguously that you need to write to them within 30 days of receiving the message. Given the potential for delays in the whole process, I would do that now and not risk going past the 30 days waiting for a bill to be issued.

Anyone had any joy cancelling without getting the link saying they were eligible? How can a price rise be detrimental to certain people and not others?! They don't know whether I will go massively out of bundle or use roaming a lot in future.

I want to be able to cancel my contract but not sure if this argument will work. Any tips?

It is well worth contacting Vodafone about this regardless whether you got the link in the text or not.

I just spent some time talking on Live Chat to them. I explained that this would be of material detriment - at first they offered me Unlimited Data to go with my texts and calls. I refused.

Last month I spent £3.15 on 7 MMS messages, I explained how now this would cost me £3.85 which would be a 22% increase on my most recent bills out of bundle charges, and a 1.6% increase on my monthly charge (above RPI rate).

They claimed I would still have to pay the cancellation, so I questioned it further. The advisor simply said "how about we reduce your monthly payment?" When I asked how much - expecting 5% discount or something he said it would now go from £40 per month to £20 per month(!)

I could not get that kind of deal anywhere else, so I'm delighted to accept that outcome. That's saved me £440 for the remainder of my contract.

Moral of the story - make sure you contact them regardless of whether they gave you the option to cancel.

Illustrates exactly why you should contact them. At the end of the day it is a forced contract change, and they are saying to many customers, 'tough'!! Treating customers with complete contempt, its wrong... Those charges are very much a part of the contract, they cannot just change them and expect people to accept.

    Spoke to Live Chat yesterday.

Took a while, but eventually managed to get my £46 contract (that was due to end in October 2017) down to £25.90 (expires in June 2017), 2 months unlimited data, plus spotify/nowtv/skysports.

    Pretty happy with that saving!
  • I received the text but they are claiming I am not eligible. I wrote a letter to them and they have not yet responded. They keep saying I have to wait for the letter before I can do anything and no one on live chat will tell me what the letter says. Pathetic company.

Got a phone call from Vodafone asking why I had requested a PAC. I told them (I think politely and without going into detail) that I'd had a bad experience with their customer services, and the caller hung up on me while I was in mid-sentence. The call lasted 55 seconds so it was hardly a case of me wanting to bend their ear at length.

    Words fail me.
  • I wasn't eligible to cancel fee-free but I got in touch via livechat anyway and started mouthing off about it. They ended up giving me a 50% discount on my line-rental (down from £34.50 to £17 a month) for the remaining 10 months of my contract. Took me about 2 hours though and 4 advisors. Ended up being put through to the complaints department where I chatted with a friendly, helpful, and quite philosophical lady called Anuradha, and she eventually sorted things out.

Does anyone have a sample letter than they sent? I don't know where to start with writing one.
