I joined vodafone from giffgaff for what I thought was a better deal. From the very start phone signal at home was terrible. I phoned and used live chat lots of times. Was told it was a local issue and would be resolved. It never has been!

My bill should be £14 a month. To my surprise I had a bill for £75.37!! I again used live chat and phoned to resolve. I was told I had been charged an extra £60 for phoning 0843 UK landline numbers. During these calls I spent most of the time in a queue anyway just waiting to speak. With giffgaff I would not have been charged such a greedy amount. I was told I would need to pay £110 just to leave.

I feel I have been unfairly treated from the start and received sub standard service at premium rate. I have had a really bad experience with vodafone I would just like to leave now and go back to giffgaff. Please can somebody help me do that without being ripped off again?
  • Not unless the web relations team are feeling charitable. You called premium numbers and chose to hang on before they even answered. That costs a fortune on most networks and is something you should have checked/realised. You can't put milk back in the bottle once you've spilt it, but you can learn from spilling it in the first place.

All 070, 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers are premium rate. These numbers are banned for customer services, financial services and public services. Unless you call chatlines, vote on TV shows, etc, there should be no need to call these numbers.

Be aware that if you search on Google for the contact details for well-known retailers, traders, banks, insurers, government departments or agencies, you will find a huge number of fake websites offering 'call connection services' that charge you a premium rate to forward calls. Many of the scam sites advertise 0843 numbers. You may have been calling these. Others advertise a variety of 084, 087 or 09 numbers.

If you spot any of these scam websites, they can be reported to ASA as being misleading.
  • Appreciate the feedback. The poor signal issues have always been there though. I feel there should be a limit in place to protect customers. My bank texts me if i go over drawn to warn me to top up my account or I will have to pay overdrawn fees. This was a one off never happened to me before! The real joke is for an extra £2.50 a month I could have added an addon to my account that would of saved me £60 for £2.50. Thanks for the info afterwards Vodafone. Seriously though terrible coverage and if I could leave without paying over £100 I would do so right now.

They are absolutely useless, they cancelled my direct debit after the August payment went out. I received a text telling me in September that my payment was over due , when I queried what had happened to the direct debit was advised they cancelled it but couldn't say why, was advised they would send a new direct debit to my bank and not to worry, got a text again the next day, so rang back to find out no direct debit had been sent to my bank, but they would do it now, got another text the following day rang again and paid my line rental but not the late payment fee.
Got a text again in October and was told the direct debit request would be sent again. Received a letter from the bank so stupidly assumed it was set up.
Rang on November to be told the bank had refused to set it up, paid over the phone and left it there.
Paid through my bank on the 9th December for the line rental but not the late payment fee, cos they can whistle for that, to receive a text today saying my account was overdue, rang them to be advised that if I paid through internet banking it wouldn't show on their system, and did I have the reference number from my payment as that is the only way they can find it, said I would have to ring back, which I did and they cut me off, the third attempt and he took the details said he would cancel the late payment fee and said he had all the info, he called me back 5 minutes later to ask for my card details, which I informed him I was reluctant to do due to fraud. I also said I had the complaints team number and I preferred to ring them, which I did, spoke to an Irish guy who said he would fill the form in to find the payment but it could take 14 working days to sort out, but would switch off the late payment fee till it had been rectified, i'll wait and see now, I don't expect miracles, and can only hope March rolls round quickly when I can leave, and I will never return
  • Follow the advice repeated endlessly on this thread or carry on as before. The main thing you now have to address are your external credit files, which will almost certainly have a negative entry and cause you problems of a much higher order if you don't - for the next six years.
