  • Please can I join? Mine is with a twist as it's not myself I relentlessly buy clothes for, it's my 2 yr old twin girls 😍😳💰

So I'd like to set myself a budget of £50 per month for them. Have already spent January's 😖 Thanks
  • Hi everyone

somerandom, you may have difficulty tracking down angora as some retailers have banned it due to animal cruelty. I too have bought beautiful cashmere cardigans in the past only to find they have bobbled horribly. I am not good with knitwear full stop, I am so good at shrinking it. Usually I buy cotton cardigans from Boden or Gap now. I always get underarm bobbles though :( but not as quickly as with cashmere.
I am on day 16 of not buying any clothes. And finding it hard now all the new things are arriving... I still don't feel any clearer about setting a budget for the rest of the year. I am not sure I understand what is a reasonable amount to spend.
Wondering if I would be better to think about it in terms of number of items? So for example, one item a month? Might this help me to really consider purchases rather than buying a huge quantity, which has become the 'norm'?
But I would need a budget too wouldn't I, otherwise I might spend £500 on one thing.... hmmm...
    Hope my rambling makes sense

  • You can remove bobbles from woolen items by (gently!) running a razor over them, then your knitwear will look nice again and last longer :money:

I'm not sure of the % of cashmere but I believe TU does them. Personally I avoid anything that says hand wash, although I did get a lovely Xmas jumper the year before last in tk maxx, said hand wash so I stuck it on a cold wool wash in the machine thinking it would be ok and I'm sure it shrunk. Have tried stretching it back via some Google tips but I am sure it's still smaller than it was originally.

Anyhow, belated birthday wishes to all those who've celebrated this week.

Oh and regarding the issue of dyed knickers funbrum, if I were knocked over I would hope the last thing anyone was checking out was my knickers

    Well done, that's fantastic.

Re the washing of woolens, I do all mine on the wool cycle in the machine and they come out the same size and shape as new. If I do hand wash them I still spin them on half speed.

Madmumof4 - I used to be like this and one of the reasons I bought my DD lots of things was because of my weight, I could indulge my clothes buying habit for someone who could wear anything without a problem. I lost all my excess weight a couple of years ago and stopped overbuying for her. Even £50 a month is a huge amount, just think what they could do in the future if you put half of that away in savings for them.

  • Haven't bought anything else yet but I need a new smart jumper. If I do go anywhere and have to take my coat off, I'll end up wearing the one I bought earlier this month (orange walking fleeces really aren't suitable for going to the ballet). I've got a long torso so it isn't easy to find things that fit.

I think you have to bite the bullet and set a budget. If you limit yourself to one item a month you are right that you may overspend on that one item. Or what happens if you see 2 items at a great price and you love ? You are either going to have to leave one behind or fail your challenge ;)

What I did is have a quick think of what I spent the year. before Which I reckoned was about £1500  Then cut it in half and then took a bit more off and made a budget of £600 which is still £50 a month.

I failed last year so this year I have stuck to the same budget and will really try to stay under it.

I am also trying to do 5 months no spending on clothes  Lets just hope I dont go mad on the 7 months I can spend :rotfl:

But I think you have to have an idea of what your budget is going to be. It dosent matter how much as we all have different amounts to spend so no right or wrong ways of doing it. But having a budget does really make you think ;) Do I need it ,Do I love it enough to break the bank ! :rotfl:

    Good luck x

I agree with this can you not try to half this amount which means if you could save £25 a month £300 a year when they are 18 years old you would have saved £4,800 in an account for them £2,400 each not a bad start ;)
