So glad someone came through to run challenge for next year. Will sign up. I didn't post often but the challenge was fabulous. I think I stuck within my figure. I actually didn't buy much at all but I didn't feel deprived at all as I was very clear I wouldn't take my riding clothes money out of challenge money. As it was I bought 3 pairs of riding jeans and I've pretty much lived in them. I adore them. I bought 2 bras and 2 jumpers. Go me. Thanks for the thread! Things I thought I wanted I so did not need. I didn't buy any make up either other than moisturisers and skin care stuff. I am thinking next year I might just put the cash in an envelope as that would make me even more accountable!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

  • I finished this challenge £120 over budget :o:o:o . I think perhaps my target was a little bit over-ambitious so i will make it a little higher next year. Looking forward to next years challenge. Thanks Kim for agreeing to run it :)

See you all on next years thread :)
    Happy New Year :heartpuls

    Thanks for running the thread!

I ended the year at £300.44/£310 so I was £9.56 under budget.

See you all on the 2017 thread.

Well done Florence J, I think you are the first to declare under budget for the year.

Never mind somerandom, at least you have a figure to declare. Twice I've ended up guesstimating.

I've ordered a coat but as it hasn't arrived yet (and is on a catalogue account so I won't be paying for it for like a month), it'll have to be in the 2017 budget. Oh dear.

I didn't set a budget, but simply set myself rules that said

"No budget, but restrictions on what I can buy

Bras (weight loss will almost certainly mean I need at least sports variety - have loads of non sports in different sizes)
Running shoes (if the ones I have become unfit for use - quite probable given I've just started training for a half marathon in October)
Walking boots (if the ones I have become unfit for use)

Can't think of anything else I'm likely to need, but will allow replacements for anything that wears out / no longer fits where I really, really don't own anything else that will do as a replacement."

Early in the year I spent £2.50 on a belt for my works trousers. That's still firmly in use.
Racking my brain as to what else I've bought (been really bad at keeping records) and it seems just 10 pairs of walking socks for work. Quite pricey though at £7.99 for a pack of 2 pairs - so a total of £39.95 in total
And a pair of walking boots (expected spend) at £129.95

Total clothing spend in 2016 was therefore £172.40 which I'm happy enough about given it included the boots.

I've also had 2 new T-shirts during the year, but they were presents (1 from my daughter and 1 from my younger son), so don't impact my budget ;)
