I think you have to bite the bullet and set a budget. If you limit yourself to one item a month you are right that you may overspend on that one item. Or what happens if you see 2 items at a great price and you love ? You are either going to have to leave one behind or fail your challenge
What I did is have a quick think of what I spent the year. before Which I reckoned was about £1500  Then cut it in half and then took a bit more off and made a budget of £600 which is still £50 a month.
I failed last year so this year I have stuck to the same budget and will really try to stay under it.
I am also trying to do 5 months no spending on clothes  Lets just hope I dont go mad on the 7 months I can spend :rotfl:
But I think you have to have an idea of what your budget is going to be. It dosent matter how much as we all have different amounts to spend so no right or wrong ways of doing it. But having a budget does really make you thinkDo I need it ,Do I love it enough to break the bank ! :rotfl:
Good luck x

Thanks for your advice mavvymoo. I know you are right! I think I found it hard because I want to do better and people on here are so focussed and shopping in charity shops etc. I hate to think how much money I have wasted over the last 15 years or so.
I think I am going to say £50 a month, but will have to have some no spend months because I rarely buy something for less than £50. £600 a year could buy fewer nicer things, it sounds a lot of money!
I am also going to allow myself a treat at the end of February when we get our bonus- I have seen a handbag I would like. I want to look forward to the purchase and really appreciate it. I'm still on no spend for January which I am pleased with, especially as I'm going through a tough time and shopping is normally my therapy for everything.
wishing everyone a good week!Fashion on the Ration 2020 - 5/66 spent0 -
Morning all,
Just dropping by to say my budget is still intact and I have resisted any urge to spend on clothes so far;)

Morning all
Yes I know you are all right on the dressBut really the only thing stopping me was the thought of not getting a spend free month :rotfl:This challenge is really working for me and I am feeling determined
vintagegal We could be twins I can spend a fortune on one item and haveI have a pair of boots that I brought in the USA and paid over $1500 for them
So that would have broken my budget for the year in one purchase
Do you ever have a look in the Chazzers ? If you dont brave it and just take a look as you will be amazed at what you can pick up. I got a Micheal korrs leather biker style jacket for £1  Stll on the website for £775
I have been Chazzer shopping with one of the ladies on here when she was on holiday and we got some amazing bargains and had a fab day
I know some people wont go near them but they are no longer like they used to be.
Can everyone that shops in the chazzer post your best bargain and lets try and convert the lurkers on here

We maybe focussed at the point but its only 18 days into the challenge ;)Give us time
and shopping in charity shops etc.Its because we know our money goes further and we can afford items we couldnt in the shops I hate to think how much money I have wasted ( the moneys gone dont wory about it plus it is making you want to change 'The habit' and thats all it is) over the last 15 years or so.

I am also going to allow myself a treat at the end of February when we get our bonus- I have seen a handbag I would like. You need to find the root of your need to shop.? Have you read Marie Kondos The magic of tidying up ?
It makes you deeply think about what you buy and helps you get to the root of the problem.
wishing everyone a good week!
If you read last years kondo thread you will see where my problem comes from with clothes There is a reason why we are like we are.You just need to dig deep to find it ;)and that little book has helped me so much.
Good luck to you x

Thanks Mavvymoo. I can't wait to hear about some charity shop bargains - whenever I go into one to drop off bags, nothing has ever caught my eye.. although I did go to Traid in London once and they had some nice pieces. Also some of the charity shops round here seem to be selling Primark clothes for close to Primark new cost.
Maybe I should plan a day out to a posher town?
I probably don't NEED anything though. I think my desire to shop has come from two things - feeling unloved and feeling overweight.
Sad but true!
I think I have Marie Kondos book on my kindle so will make sure I read it.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to me. I really need to kick this destructive habit!Fashion on the Ration 2020 - 5/66 spent0 -
I'd like to join please - I realised I spend money for the sake of it as I like to buy something when I'm out and about
. I have a huge wardrobe for myself stuffed with clothes I do not wear so I really want to start selling/ donating and buying pieces I know I'll wear and will last for ages.
I've given myself £250/year for all clothes, shoes and accessories but doesn't include any vouchers I earn through survey sites/ am given for my bday or xmas.
I have already bought something this year - £3.99 in accessorize on a headband which I don't need but I liked it so £3.99/£250 already spent.Crazy Clothes Challenge 2016 - Jan £3.99/£2500 -

When I was visiting my niece in Dalston,London, they had a Traid shop there. I got a fab pair of Zara trousers for £1, but you had to search! Some garments from Primarni were the same price as if you bought new! I find that as well in chazza shops in Brum.
I haven't even browsed this year as its too tempting!:oLiving a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

Well I've done some anti shopping today, returned some tops to Decathlon I bought for OH but didn't fit. Thought I had to go to store for the returns but turns out the returns label was prepaid after all so whacked in the paperwork and got that posted. Also sent back some items from Mango Outlet - long story but I ordered some things twice when they were reduced, then reduced again not reading that returns weren't free  cross with myself as its cost me to return them but I'll know better in future. Just glad the bags aren't looking at me now. Feels like a bit of a clear out too.
Never find much in my local CS shops that catches my eye, apart from a jacket I bought a while back for fancy dress which was perfect, BNWT (£80 I think but looked like it had been bought in the 80's) still cost me nearly £8 though  any nice dresses like Coast etc are commonly £15 - £20 which I just feel is expensive still. I guess it wouldn't be if I really needed something and the item was perfect.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

There is a traid shop near where I live. The windows are usually dressed with shop dummys dressed in fluff, or tin foil or polystyrene balls!! Whats the significance of these shops? I don't get it?

Still £0 spends of my £100 total. I got a free samsonite suitcase bag on wheels which is perfect for my upcoming holiday as the last day we will not have the hotel to store luggage. It's worth £100 and although a little smaller then I was going to buy it has probably saved me £20 buying a cheap version!
Have started advertising some clothes on gumtree, I'm unsure whether to try ebay. Still haven't started sowing and fixing my to do pile of clothes.
Still no need to buying anything clothes wise, though my holiday mid feb will be a test....
Whilst I'm doing well with my clothes ans food budget I have spent on buying mini holiday and loads of stuff for me... I think I'm going to need to do better with that.0
