Money - that makes a lot of sense. I agree that the 70s were probably the decade when most people were "normal" weight not obese, although I don't want to go back to the weight I was then - just 6 st 7lb and really skinny. I much more comfortable now at 8st 5lb (when at target - but a bit more at the moment!)

    Mygawd - that is small!

The lowest weight I've been (ie since adulthood) is 7stones 10 and that is the lowest point on the scales for a woman of my height and build and beneath that it goes into "too low for health" category (I had sunk to that weight because of all the walking I was doing at that point I think). My "health range" (ie at 5'4" medium build) is between 7 st 12 and 10st 2 lbs. Outside that range they say I might have health problems because of my weight and I certainly agree at the top end of that scale - ie because the health problems down to weight started at about 10st 7lb for me basically.

So - some people might feel okay about their weight as long as it doesn't go over healthy range. Personally - I'm after the weight that is "best-looking" (ie flat stomach for instance). As I like my stomach to be flat and I have a big waist regardless (but am not pear-shaped) - then that means needing to be my ideal weight to look the best I can. Add the fact that my main style of dressing is "smart casual" - but I do like to look "elegant" sometimes and elegant definitely means slim imo.

Checking out as to whether there are any tv programmes I wish to watch today - and there is ITV3 that has a lot of "older" tv programmes on and probably watching something like "Heartbeat" for instance would help "re-train" eyes about size of people.

Thought for the day being - the old height/weight tables are still there. Googling brings them up and they are both much easier to work out and more accurate than this recent-days BMI imo.

    http://www.calculator.net/ideal-weight-calculator.html

Input height and sex and the ideal weight for you will come up. Its based basically on 4 of the old height/weight tables. It came up absolute on the dot accurate to the lb basically for what I know mine is - ie 8.5 stones. They don't talk about slim/medium or heavier build. It is just one figure. It was spot on for my medium build figure.

Really interesting. For me I get:
Based on the Robinson formula (1983), your ideal weight is 145.5 lbs
Based on the Miller formula (1983), your ideal weight is 147.0 lbs
Based on the Devine formula (1974), your ideal weight is 151.0 lbs
Based on the Hamwi formula (1964), your ideal weight is 148.8 lbs
Based on the healthy BMI recommendation, your recommended weight is 128.9 lbs - 174.2 lbs

I was aiming for 154lbs (11 stone) which is I thought was quite low for my 5'10". It seems that might be a bit high still.

Today is day 14 of SW for me and been on plan 100%..... I have never lasted this long before without caving in some way :rotfl:Mr H has had mc donalds and chinese in the last 2 weeks and I don't mind! I'm hoping for a good loss tomorrow although having made the mistake of getting on my own scales yesterday I fear I maybe disapointed. Lesson learnt step away from the blinkin scales!

I've heard from my consultant twice this week and it has really helped, never before have I ever had midweek texts etc... but then I've never had a "nice" consultant before :rotfl:

I've decided if i can get through on my 5-15syns a day then I will as although my leader says i can go up to 20-25( havent yet) i would just be eating chocolate for the sake of eating it and I don't need it and actually I don't want it.

    Today:

B: 2 alpen light (B) muller light (choc mint :p yummy!) bowl of chopped up fruit
L:chese (A) salad with either ham/tuna/egg or maybe all :o will have (1sy)n extra light mayo
D: is savory 5% mince (musrooms, peppers, tomatoes, carrots, onions) with green beans, swede and mangetout (3 syns gravy)

    Snacks kitkat 5.5 syns
    3 syns milk for teas x 2

Yep try and stay off your scales, epic head melting just there!!! I try and stay off mine but sometimes its just too tempting.

Glad you've found a nice consultant

Lucky Mr H, I guess he's not doing SW then :rotfl::rotfl:
  • Hi everyone

Checking in with a 2lb loss this morning. The first time I jumped on the scales though the loss was much bigger, so I had some cereal and a drink and weighed myself again. I'm a bit uneasy even posting this loss as it's not down to SW at all.

Hopefully I'll be back on track soon, at the moment I'm still not eating properly. I'm feeling tons better today though, had a shower for the first time in a week  (first time I've had the energy to do anything like that, I'm not usually so unhygienic :p) so reckon I'm on the up and up

Have a fab day everyone, hopefully speak soon
    xx

    So pleased for you lantanna.:T
and everyone else showing a loss:T.

Football again here tonight so that means coffee and half a Crunchie. Portioned up the rest of the Bolognese for the freezer so that's a few HM ready meals sorted. I think I'll make savoury mince too, I just love that stuff real comfort food.

Does anyone make fishcakes? I want to use up a tin of salmon so I thought I'd just do something simple (mash, parsley, onion) but wondered if I make too many will they cook from frozen. Anyone know?

I like your approach money. I gained weight simply through bad habits/lifestyle choices It's only since joining this thread that I've really realised the emotional/psychological side of weight gain which I've never experienced. I know I can be very judgemental but I'm convinced that the health benefits and general feeling of wellbeing from not being fat has to make it worth persevering.

    Today's EE plan:
B: NAS Grapefruit, 2 fried eggs, HEB toast, HEA milk for drinks
    L: not sure, probably JP
    D: SW Spaghetti Bolognese
Syns: Crunchie, scrape of spread, squirt of HP sauce

I can almost hear them calling me :rotfl::rotfl: Mr H will put them in the loft out of the way. that actually scares me for some reason.

Mr H has hollow legs I'm sure, he is over 6ft and eats for england but never gains weight

    how you feeling today Lantanna?

I've been at the hair dressers having a new 'doo so that will be at least 1/2lb off :rotfl:

Yeah some people are lucky aren't they. My sisters husband is the same, eats and eats and will always be a beanpole. She is not amused with him sometimes, a couple of weeks ago he sat and ate a whole tiramusu to himself :rotfl:

I'm feeling positive today, think I just needed to get that first weigh in over and for it to be a loss. Just enjoying my BNS & SP soup and my its spicy:eek:, note to self to add less fresh chilli next time! Gym bag in the car for after work, 2nd time already this week. Home to a beef casserole and cabbage. Think my new bigger freezer is def helping me be more organised and hopefully stick to it. Great to just pull something out for the next night when I get home and just boil some veg etc to go with it. Must do some more batch cooking this weekend. If I can keep the losses going for a good few weeks I'll be flying and the odd inevitable sts or small gain shouldn't knock me off.
  • Day three on SW, and I actually prefer this way of eating to my old way, am more full and don't find that I want to snack on rubbish!! So this may actually work for me (finally).

All I'm thinking is can I save my syns for a couple of vodka & Diet Cokes at the weekend? Or do you have to use them daily?

This weekend, I'm going to stay with my old uni friend, and she is like a beanpole no matter what she eats, and is one of these people that says 'oh you don't need to lose weight, you're fine as you are' so won't accept that I am trying to lose weight, so won't think about what we eat etc. It's going to be a difficult one!! Just going to have to try my best to stick on plan. I'm in my late 20s, and losing weight seems to be a taboo subject around my larger friends. They say 'you've got a lovely pretty face, you don't need to lose weight', annoys me because I'm doing it more for my health and so I have a future, support amongst my friends is not great.

If I lose 2-3 lbs this week, as my first week on SW then I will be chuffed. Never lost more then 2lbs a week on WW, although always stayed within my points.

    Fingers crossed!!:T
