Thought I would share my story / experience of the recall / modification of these dryers.

I completed the form online on 23rd November. I had to complete two forms one for myself and one for my parents whose dryer was affected also.

I was called last week about my parents dryer, they had an Indesit IDC 85 (UK) a condenser dryer which was purchased in the summer of 2013. Indesit called on 30th December to say it needed replacing and they were offering a Whirlpool AZB8570. We accepted that, because to be honest a new dryer is better than a repair, and in my parents house it does not get used very much. I was then advised someone would call shortly to arrange delivery. They called the next day 31st December and delivered was arranged for 6th January.

Delivery was smooth, confirmation text day before confirming delivery date, followed by a text later that day giving us a 3-hour delivery slot. Finally day of delivery another text confirming 1-hour delivery slot. Delivery person was friendly and helpful, removed old dryer and installed new one, unpacked and removed packing, tested dryer was working. I was chatting to delivery guy who was making approx. 30 deliveries a day for replacement machines. He told me all the old ones were being scrapped and because Hotpoint / Indesit etc. are part American owned, it was the American's who wanted new dryers to be delivered to avoid possible law suits!

He told me if I had not heard anything about my replacement (also reported 23rd November) then to chase it up next week. I have a Hotpoint Vented Dryer TVM562G. I bought mine in May 2010. I did chase up with Hotpoint before Christmas and was told to allow 8 weeks for them to contact me. My initial email confirmation of the form filling did not give any specific time (although aware some people's emails advised 5 weeks) The delivery driver said it would more than likely be a replacement dryer as hardly any were being modified. He told me, he even replaced a dryer yesterday that was 12 years old!

I should add within 30 minutes of registering the new warranty online with Whirlpool, I got a sales call trying to plug the extended warranty.

I've had no response since the automated email on 25th Nov which stated they would be in contact within 5 weeks, so i phoned them last night and they said the 5 weeks has now been extended to 8!
They've told me i should hear something by the end of next week.

I've had an email today regarding my Indesit idc75, looks like they can repair it in February or as a goodwill gesture I can buy a Hotpoint TDWSF83BEP 8kg Condenser Tumble Dryer for £99. I cant seem to find any online presence for that model?

    MAIN PRODUCT FEATURES

Large 8kg drum is perfect for larger households and is able to dry up to 24 t-shirts
Sensor drying monitors moisture levels inside the drum so that the machine stops when the clothes reach the drying level selected saving time and energy

Anyone else get the same? I think i'll hold out and see if they offer a free replacement.

Well This is all new to me. I received my first recall letter today about my hotpoint tumble dryer. Which incidently was thrown out by me over a year ago when it over heated, smoked and stopped working.
Hotpoint however don't seem to be too bothered because I don't have it anymore.
Guess I should just be lucky it didn't set my house on fire and harm my family.
I will use the washing line and radiators from now on.

May good luck be your friend in whatever you do and may trouble be always a stranger to you.

Some areas must be struggling for engineers? I had a visit for mine a few days before Christmas which was only a couple of weeks after I contacted them... On the first visit the engineer found another fault but as the part needs ordering in is booked for a return appointment this coming Monday to complete the recall issue and extra repair.... Strange though I did receive a generic letter today informing me that my machine has been identified as one of the effected and I will hear from them soon with a date for repair.

Obviously short staffed under totally overwhelming conditions.
  • Why are some people being offered replacement driers, while others are having to pay £99?

    I have no idea.

You need to ask Hotpoint that question but they may decline to answer.
