We had our dryer done the other week. It took about half hour all in.
I've just seen there's been another house fire, the lady was waiting for hotpoint to contact her.
Ours is done but I'm still a bit nervous about it tbh.
Are they saying dryers are 100 percent safe once upgraded?

A family in Yeovil at the weekend, the Hotpoint dryer caught fire in the utility room.

In this one he was in the flat and the fire took hold, it could have been fatal.

As could any of them, of course.

For a start you haven’t established anything.

Every house fire would be investigated and when suspicion lies with an appliance the manufacturers would be called in to examine it. This wouldn’t happen in every case but there would certainly be an amount to raise alarm bells.

Any decent manufacturer would continually test their products and this would surely point to fluff build up and potential fires.

Isn’t it a bit strange that Whirlpool buy the company and they find the problem in a short time, when Hotpoint hadn’t noticed in 11 years.

    Hotpoint ignored safety warnings http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/shopping-and-consumer-news/12014824/Tumble-dryer-manufacturer-ignored-safety-warnings-over-fire-risk.html

    Interesting reading http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/642771/tumble-dryers-cause-one-fire-day-FOI?_ga=1.154899640.1033475100.1455524052

Yes, it would take some time to come to the conclusion that they need to do something, but 11 years is ridiculous.

I’d also suggest that by burying your head in the sand and ignoring the many facts that are available you are increasing the chances of people being hurt or even dying in fires.

Really? They get called in to investigate every single fire from one of their appliances? Anything to back this up or is it another "life according to zandoni" post?

As for them ignoring the warnings, the article you link to states:
Yet Hotpoint had rejected two reports by consumer group Which?, one in 2013 and another in July of this year, both of which found that its tumble driers were prone to catching fire.

And then goes on to explain:
They added that since Hotpoint refused to confirm its market share, it is “impossible to know for sure whether or not the numbers are disproportionately large”.

Following the publication of the report, Hotpoint claimed that it was unfair to say its products were any more likely to suffer a fault than other brands. It said figures pointed to a "relatively small number".

    And also:
Which? published another report in July of this year, which revealed that between 2011 and 2014, 349 of Hotpoint’s tumble driers caught fire, 34 per cent of the total fires for these products.
The authors noted that it is possible that Hotpoint accounts for as much as a third of the tumble dryer market.

And yet in the other article you link, it says tumble dryers account for 12% of household fires - which is below washing machines 14%. So even with this safety issue, tumble dryers are still safer than washing machines. So why aren't you concerned about those?

As for whirlpool discovering it fairly quickly in comparison - again I have explained this to you. You're much more likely to find something if you're actively looking for it. Whirlpool may also have sold machines with the same design themselves before having to change them and therefore were aware of the potential risks and how a slight design change would lessen that risk.

Oh and nothing you've posted proves they knew for 1 year, never mind the entire 11 years.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Letter in the post seems to work best - most people seem to be offered a faster repair by doing this although it's not guaranteed.

Still 10 mins to draft a letter and pop it in the post, nothing to loose really...

    P.S sorry for large text!

Has anyone ordered the new TDWSF83BEZ condenser model? Any reviews?
  • I believe they are offering a new dryer but it is inferior to the one I have . Is December an acceptable time to wait for a repair ? Does any one know my rights can I ask for money off a comparable model ?
    Thanks
  • We have the Indesit idc75 and have decided to pay the £99 to get the Hotpoint TDWSF83BEP. It is a better model than what we already have and saves the faff of having to wait 4 more months for repairs on a 5-year old machine.
