They said it is not a fault. This is ridiculous.
Your argument has no weight - even if they did accept the goods are "not fit for purpose", you're not then automatically entitle to a free replacement. The law is repair, replace or refund at the retailers discretion.
Have you tried simply writing a letter to Hotpoint to state your dissatisfaction and request a free replacement unit from them?0 -
So I finally had to agree to paying the £99 as we have been waiting since November and was advised June for repair!
That said, we were not in a position to use the original device after reading stories of them catching fire.
The replacement unit arrived today - not packaged or anything, are these new or just a refurb?0 -

I don't think anyone on this forum can answer that with any authority.
Did they perhaps unwrap the thing in their van before you saw it?0 -
I will indeed, we were under the impression it was new (as in its original retail packaging). Wonder if anyone else has received their replacement?
I am quite certain it is graded/refurb stock.
Original URL sent to arrange the purchase:

After a bit of digging:

Here are the delivery drivers outside my house this morning with the "new" unit. Straight down on the tarmac with no wrapping, nice.

As a newbie I am unable to post links - perhaps another member would be so kind to IMG tag them...0 -

I imagine that Whirlpool are using all parts of their organisation to help them address their massive problem as quickly as they can.
But I'm only guessing.
How are you able to say "I am quite certain it is graded/refurb stock"?
Is it dented? Are there blemishes?
Did you notice that they also sell "absolutely brand new" end-of-line stock from that website?END-OF-LINE
These products are absolutely brand new and have recently been made obsolete as superseded by this year's newer models.0 -
We just got a Hotpoint 8kg condenser, (ours was 4/5 years old) for £99.
It is new, was wrapped, just maybe the older model - it'll do.0 -
Well I did some digging and its certainly related to that website.
Also the fact it did not come wrapped I am concerned it is not new. I am not home at the moment but will check to see if there are any usage marks, dents etc and report back later.0 -

I've seen that happen many times.
Oh... hang on... maybe my washing machine wasn't new after all. :eek:0 -
Not ignored, just did not address your suggestion.
But in response to that, no - the item was not unwrapped on the van. It was transported "bare".0 -

You can see clearly from your CCTV pictures that there are other units in the van which aren't wrapped - wrapped or not means absolutely nothing, it could be that they unwrap them before loading them on the van at the beginning of the day to make sure they're in and out as quickly as possible without faffing about with wrapping at each job.
Remember that they also tend to take wrapping away with them, by not having to carry the wrapping on the van possibly means being able to carry another machine or two and therefore complete more jobs per day.
Hotpoint are likely employing engineers/local companies on a contract basis to complete modifications or deliveries of replacement machines - I'd assume these contracts are performance based, so it's in these companies interests to make sure they do x jobs per day as fast as possible (hence optimisation by removing wrapping).
The website you mentioned is probably just Hotpoint pooling all available resources - if you think about it they're not going to design and build a new website (which would take time) just for the modification if they have an existing website (presumably with all the associated background admin and logistics) already in place.0
