Hotpoint urgent tumble dryer recall
Comments
-
I registered my appliance with them in November. The estimated date of repair will be AUGUST!!!!!!
There was a case with a motor manufacturer in the USA where a model had a potentially fatal fault. The company decided that the cost of compensating where there were deaths and injuries due to the fault was less than the cost of recall and repair. It may have been Chrysler or Corvette; I can't recall.
I wonder if Hotpoint is hoping that we will just buy new tumble dryers instead of waiting for repair, in the belief that this route and paying for damage/injury/death due to the fault will be lower than repairing the fault in all appliances?
It stinks.0 -
Could someone please give me some advice on my issue. I'll try to summarise this as much as possible.
I bought my dryer 4 months ago from AO.com. In short, there stance is that the dryer still dries clothes, this is a modification, not a fix so tough luck, you have to wait for an engineer.
From my side, i bought a dryer with a specific Delay Timer feature which I can't now use as I would like through no fault of my own and i am being told that it may take over a year for me to get a repair. I'm not happy having an item which has a higher risk of catching fire than usual in my house.
Looking through this thread, a lot of people have gone to Hotpoint directly, but I'm not sure if they bought directly from Hotpoint? I always thought to go via the retailer. I'd be more than happy with a replacement
Thanks in advance

Thanks - It's definitely one that's at risk
the site itself just tells me to fill out a form and it will then give me instructions of how to maintain the appliance in the meantime. Due to the length of time to wait and the loss of confidence in the product, this isn't really an option for me. I've waited 2 months so far for an engineer and there's still the possibility of another year of waiting
Have a good look through this thread, with a little effort you should be able to get a free new exchange machine.0 -
Thank you for the replies
wealdroam - I don't want to wait a year with having to worry about my dryer and not being able to use it like i want to, but thanks for the help
Zandoni - I did have a look through the thread but i couldn't see anything AO.com specific so I just wanted some clarity regarding whether I should call Hotpoint directly
RainbowBlue - I have had several emails from AO.com who essentially say it's not a fault, it's a modification they are doing. I think i'll try Hotpoint directly and see where I get0 -

Well, I haven't accepted being fobbed off, which is why I'm writing. I find it is often helpful to know who to address a complaint to, as well as where...
...but thanks for the address anyway!

Hi all affected,
If your machine is less than 30 days old the new Consumer Rights Act 2015 entitles you to immediate refund from the retailer. If between 30 days and 6 months old your contract still lies with the retailer e.g Curry's. You're entitled to repair or replacement from the retailer.
They will argue the repair is from Hotpoint for which u will have to wait around 6 months, totally inadequate!
Goods must be fit for purpose.
Between 6 months and after that time you can still deal with the retailer to handle your dispute. After the year is up Hotpoint is offering repair modification or replacement. The repair is only valid 90 days. The replacement is new although not good if your machine is under a year old to be told to pay more money.

I very much doubt any new machines sold through retailers are now un-modified. I suspect most of the stock is now pre-modified.After the year is up Hotpoint is offering repair modification or replacement. The repair is only valid 90 days. The replacement is new although not good if your machine is under a year old to be told to pay more money.
So then wait for the repair or take it up with the retailer as you say which should bear no cost.Write to the CEO-Maurizio Pettorino0
