We had our dryer done the other week. It took about half hour all in.
I've just seen there's been another house fire, the lady was waiting for hotpoint to contact her.
Ours is done but I'm still a bit nervous about it tbh.
Are they saying dryers are 100 percent safe once upgraded?

No appliance will ever be 100% safe, but it should be at least as safe as any other make on the market, possibly more so now.

You really shouldn't leave anything like a washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher running when you're not in and up as they all carry risks.

As you point out there is over 5 million machines out there and it's a massive task. Perhaps they should of fixed them earlier and not waited 11 years :)

8 million I believe - 5 mill in the UK alone.

Yes, perhaps they should have fixed them earlier. If only they had known, they could have modified the design so they wouldn't have 11 years worth of liabilities. Perhaps they should've borrowed wealroams crystal ball

This has probably been answered in the thread but I dont want to wade through 37 pages! But what happens if you purchase an affected appliance 2nd hand & you're not sure if it has been repaired?

Contact them - its not like sale of goods act where the rights are between you and who sold it to you. Product liability makes the manufacturer also liable for death, injury or damage to other property (not the product itself though) caused by their product. That is essentially why they are supplying a fix no matter the age - and also why you won't have to be the original owner/provide original receipts like a warranty might require.

If you purchased it recently (last 3 months perhaps) then its possible its been modified already (from what people have said, they replace the back panel with one that has a sort of box to protect the heating element from fluff). If it was before this, then I'd seriously doubt that it has been modified yet.

A crystal ball would have been one method, but Surely a better one would of been to of taken notice of the burnt out machines that must have been returned to them over the past 11 years.

It would be better to assume that it hasn't been modified and join the wait for repair.

    Not a good idea.

My crystal ball is not working properly - this thread is still running. :D
  • I was told my repair was going to be in November - I emailed 'Maurizio.Pettorino@indesit.com' on Friday and now have an appointment on 21st March for the dryer to be fixed.

OMG Bigfella, I have just now been offered this dryer for £99 and came looking for reviews. Loose screw would be least of my problems, hell Ive lived with my husband for years and have jars of left over screws that werent needed for projects!! Going to jump at it unless I can find really bad reviews ie not drying, breaking down or taking hours to dry. Good luck with your claim and enjoy if you get it. Famuily of six here, had dryer for years, so at theat price Im happy!
