Hotpoint urgent tumble dryer recall

  • took the paperwork to Currys, and they said they needed an unplift number (Currys say they need this to refund me, so they can claim the refund back from Hotpoint), which was not on the collection note. Have called Hotpoint time and time again for an uplift number but still have not been given one.

I can fully understand why a lot of new posters would think people on here work for Whirlpool. Many regular posters on here always defend the company.

I can also fully understand why people are angry at the service they are getting from Whirlpool. I will remind people again that Hotpoint churned these potentially dangerous machine out for 11 years. I find it extremely hard to have any sympathy for the company, the individuals on the phone yes, but that's the job they took on.

Agreed, all I wanted was a bit of advice. Perhaps some reassurance - I don't know.

But a lot of the threads on here, I now notice that they receive a very "Youtube" style response. Which then leads onto differing opinions, an argument followed but some insults and then either a moderated post or user ban.

You say this as if nobody was interested but you did get advice from various different members of the forum.

The point I'm trying to make (and this is no way aimed at you bigfella9852) is that an awful lot of people come on this thread purely baying for blood and expecting the totally unreasonable to happen and/or often have a very warped idea of their rights and entitlements.

These people are often shot down very quickly and given real world examples of why they're wrong or misinformed (i.e. not just targeted for no reason), but then either refuse outright to accept the advice they've been given or another new member pops up and starts having a go at the person who was giving advice because they don't agree.

I haven't seen anyone actually outright "defend" Hotpoint. Just because you don't agree with that they're saying doesn't mean they're defending Hotpoint but rather trying to show why certain things happen for certain reasons and that the world isn't as simplistic as we'll modify and repair 5 million machines by next Monday.

No disrespect, but I could easily accuse you of working for a competitor with the amount of times you've come out with the "selling these machines for 11 years" statement.

Just had a look in my crystal ball, and it predicts that this thread will be locked or deleted before the weekend is out.

I will be getting my £99 back, I will construct my complaint carefully so that Hotpoo (see what I did there) feel that the least they can do for all the trouble, calls, wet clothes etc that I am being a reasonable consumer.

    Have a great weekend.

They are no longer offering that model the new one is TDWSF83BEZ which as someone mentioned looks like a rebranded AZB 8570 making life a little easier if you need spares in a few years. The older model offered didn't have a UK equivalent from what I could see.

Yep, nearest I could find to the other model was the Whirlpool DDLX and HDLX ranges, which only seem to be available outside the UK.

I'm sure Hotpoint's repair men will have no great problem getting parts, its whether those of us who would rather not pay for exorbitant insurance and repair it themselves can easily source them at a reasonable cost. On the up side Whirlpool's build quality (for their standard uk models at least) seems to be higher than hotpoint-indesit

As you point out there is over 5 million machines out there and it's a massive task. Perhaps they should of fixed them earlier and not waited 11 years :)

Haven't we discussed this already though (and as I recall you sort of showed agreement) that it's very unlikely Hotpoint actually knew for 11 full years?

It's a long way back through this thread to see what I actually said but I'm pretty sure I said something along the lines of they knew for a large proportion of those years. If they done something years ago they wouldn't be in this position now.

Now you tell me, when do you think they knew? Bearing in mind they must of had burnt out machines returned to them by fire investigators many times over the years.

As much as I do actually enjoy our debates, I feel that now I have Kim Jong Un on my case I'll get banned if I dare "step out of line"...

    Therefore lets stay on topic.....
