  • Good afternoon all! Haven't posted in a while as I have been doing night shifts this week. At work during the night and asleep during the day. Not the best for my health but good for my financial journey. However all these will change in January when I move on to my new job. It's 9-5 Mon-Fri so it would be a healthier more balanced lifestyle but not so good in the pockets (I reckon I'd be £500 down every month). There are some opportunities for overtime (my current manager wants me to pick up occasional night shifts after January to help them out). I haven't replied yet as I am not sure whether to completely start afresh and enjoy the new lifestyle or use it to my advantage for some extra cash for my EF. What would you do if you were in my shoes?

Before I forget congratulations lexbubbles for your new badge of being Debt-Free! What an achievement!

Congratulations also to a lot of you who have been having a lot of victories putting in to the EF despite the multitude of temptations to overspend in the run up to Christmas. Hats off to you! I know it's not easy not to give in. I myself have been finding it hard. It's our first Christmas since we became debt free and we are afraid to overspend. We HAVE NOT started with our Christmas shopping yet (scary thought). But we have a small Christmas fund which we have been putting a small amount into every month. I am off work next week and I am hoping to complete the Christmas shopping then in more financially savvy ways. Watch this space.

Welcome to the new members. It's nice to be surrounded by people who are in the same journey and who can relate to our own circumstances,

  • Afternoon All.... :) I've just been to the Doctors and had my ears syringed...not the easiest or most pleasant thing to do but at least I can hear again :D

lexbubbles - Target adjusted hun....Go for it!! ;)

DuranGirl - it's a good feeling pay the Parents back isn't it? I owe my Mum a huge amount of money but am slowly paying it all back and it feels great everytime I make a payment :) And LoL about the waking up....I've woken up early mostly every day for a long long time so I'm used to it now....the only trouble is that by 7pm I'm exhausted and heading for bed....I'm guessing I go to bed earlier than my 10 year old Nephew!! LOL :D

The Only Girl - Hmmmm, not sure what to do about the Job, it depends whether you are happy there or not. If you're happy then doing some occasional Overtime could be a great way to earn extra money....If you're unhappy and it makes you miserable then I would say don't do it....And it sounds like you are doing the right thing with Christmas Shopping by saving up month by month....have you joined the Sealed Pot Challenge? That might help a bit.....go check it out and have a look :)

  • Hi everyone,
Finally feel ready to share my sad news and that I'm starting my EF fund again from scratch. Sadly my cat got run over in front of me and my 5yr old DS last Friday evening. He had to be pts, however as it was Friday evening OOH's the cost was £222. Between this and the £1000 EF fund I had managed to save around £146 of which I used £145 towards this cost. My usual Monday £5 was added so I'm declaring a total of £5 currently.

Brilliant brilliant news [Deleted User]! :j

Thanks DuranGirl :D Good to hear your news about car tax refund and well done you on sneaking the money back to your parents xx by the way I was a Duran fan back in the day, I could never decide whether John or Roger was my favourite! :)
  • Sorry Stormpassing, I posted before reading your message. So sorry to hear about your cat how awful for you xx
  • Sorry for your loss Stormpassing. Hope you and your little boy are feeling ok - it must have been horrible.

[Deleted User] - I have to confess that John has always been my favourite (I position myself at gigs accordingly, just in case the call comes...:rotfl:), but they are still all looking so great! And the fact that they are still creating exciting, original music is brilliant too. Enough now... :happyhearMaybe once I've reached my EF target I'll start a "follow Duran Duran around the world (but not in a stalky way) fund":rotfl:
