Morning Everyone,
I hope that medication kicks in in time for your weekend away Helen. Well done on adding to your EF too - little by little is good, we've always said it's not a race and something going in is better than something coming out, no matter how big
#2 update - part 2/2
£215.32 added making my new total £407.94 aka 8.16%
Keep on keeping on Everyone

Well done to everyone who has added anything to their savings recently:T. I've decided the best way for me is to sweep all the 'surplus' money from my current account and into my challenge savings pot at the very end of each month. Sometimes there isn't much:eek: as paying off my debts has to take precedence and I'm so determined not to touch this challenge money for any reason whatsoever;). I don't want to put it into my savings account only to have to withdraw it days later. I'm not saving it for emergencies as such, it's for my 'new to me' car when my current old friend finally dies. I don't want to have to swap one old banger for another because of depleted savings:eek:. It will still be a used car but as 'young' as I can afford when the day comes. I live in a very rural area without any public transport nearer than 3 miles away (and that's only a 2-hourly bus at certain times of the day). Nearest tiny village shop is almost 5 miles away and facilities like Doctor and vet even further than that. As you can see, a reliable car is an absolute essential:(
Helen, I'm so pleased you have been to the Doc and are now taking something to make you feel better in time to enjoy a lovely family weekend. Have a wonderful time:beer:
Hugs to anyone else who has been having worries and setbacks recently. I hope all is well with you all now:beer:
Congratulations to all the savers and commiserations to all who have had to spend:)0 -
This is such a lovely group, love hearing about everyone's updates! Hope the illness goes in time for you Dreamer Helen, fingers crossed!Dogbooks - I'm doing much better thank you....Ooooh where in Yorkshire are you going to for the Hen Party? I'm being nosey but I know Yorkshire relatively well....I'm off to York for the day in May as it's such a beautiful City... xXx
Well.. it's two events I'm going to- the hen party is in Bath for a friend I went to school with. Then the Yorkshire weekend is next month catching up with uni friends. My friend lives near Bingley but out in the country somewhere- it looks beautiful! It's lovely to catch up with friends but the trains and food/ drink is definitely my biggest expense!I've decided the best way for me is to sweep all the 'surplus' money from my current account and into my challenge savings pot at the very end of each month.I like your tactic about not touching it and I'm sure it will soon build up
The good news is I have pretty much cleared my credit card (made a payment of £200 today!) and paid the bride's sister £80 as the final installment for the hen party... feels like an expensive day but paid off important things!Goals for 2017:- [STRIKE]Complete purchase of house[/STRIKE]
- Save emergency fund- £1200/ £9300

I just sell stuff that I've already got including loads of things passed on from my Mum and just general clutter hoarded over a lifetime:o. Nothing very exciting but one man's trash is another man's treasure as they say;)
I don't buy in to sell on although I'm an avid reader and can't resist spending some of my takings on books for myself (which I do sell once I've read them). I only do this if the sellers nearest to my pitch have any, I do car boots on my own so can't leave my pitch to have a good wander round:(
Most of the sales I go to start at the crack of dawn. Like your friend I'm there very early often when it's still dark. Not quite as early as 4 a.m. though:eek:. The one I use most lets sellers in from 5.30 and I have to leave home about 4.45 to get there. It's essential to go early to get a good pitch. Get there just before the start and you often get pushed into the last available spaces right at the extremities of the field where a lot of buyers can't be bothered to venture:(. It's good fun though, I really enjoy doing them:j.0 -
Hello Everyone, Seems like everyone is doing really well.
I've had a bit of luck here. Since I got a payrise at work I knew my tax credits and housing benefit would likely be stopped or at least dropped down so whilst they were sorting it all out I made sure to just put the payments they were still paying me to one side as I thought I would just have to pay it pack. As it turns out my Tax credits have reduced but they've taken into account what they have already paid me so I get to keep that and in a weird turn of events my housing benefit has gone up!
The upshot of all that is I've managed to add £225.23 to my fund bringing my total so far to £687.85 .I should also from now on be able to save at least £90 a month towards my fund. I'll also be opening a JISA for my son and throwing £25 a month at that with a view to increasing it once I'm back working full time.
Nearly payday and really hoping to be past the first £1000 mark soon.
Hope everyone else is well!0 -
Hi DreamerHelen
Hope you enjoyed your weekend in lovely Cornwall
I've another £25 to add to my EF taking the total to £1031 now. I'm a third of the way to my goal but will split it into £250/£500 mini targets, so it doesn't seem so far way
