  • Hiya All,
Similar to others, three of us are hoping to go to NY for my Mum's 60th birthday in April. I know it's early days yet, but a rough idea of a budget for flights and for hotels would be great.

It would only be for 7 days, and we don't mind heading out mid-week to keep the price down, but I really don't know where to start. Any advice on flight costs and hotels that are reasonable would be really helpful.

    Thanks for any advice!!

  • Hi guys,

Just wonderng if anyone can give any advice. My brother and I are going to NY next January and would love to catch some of the sporting events on at the time (rangers ice hockey, knicks basketball matches, etc). Does anyone kow any reputable retailers on the net where I can buy tickets?

    Thanks!

for all sporting events that I've been to, (knicks and rangers) i've always booked through ticketmaster.com, and selected the willcall option..

never had an issue, always got my ticket, and enjoyed the game!

This thread is great for advice but I would suggest trip advisor when looking for hotels,... ... We stayed at the Shelburne, Murray Hill ( Affinia Hotel) on Lexington, just a couple of blocks up from the Chrysler building, and it was excellent.

I think the moneysaving threads are working perfectly for recommendations on hotels, at least here, you have a chance to have a mini conversation with someone regarding the hotel, and that is more difficult with tripadvisor.

by all means, check out tripadvisor (i know i've got some reviews on there), but don't discount the vast amount of information us moneysavers have put up here on NYC hotels...
  • No I agree, I like to read everything that people have posted. The info on this site was excellent when planning our trip this year. The thread must have been closed down as it was huge, but like here, new ones start. I appreciate the advice given here and use it in conjunction with other sites too.
As you seem a bit of an expert, I posted a query on flights on the 'cheap flights' thread, wonder if you can offer any advice?
    Thanks.

Hi Christa - your post is on the NY cheap flights thread here (link also at top of this thread) - is that the one you meant? When you post there, the thread should bump up onto the front page of travel, let me know if this is what you meant... :o
