hi,
im flying to New York on the 7th of December and staying in the Hyatt Place, Secaucus, New Jersey. does any one know any good bus companies or taxis that will go from NY TO NJ?0 -
I am visiting NY for 4 nights in Feb. Obviously the exchange rate is really good at the moment, is it worth me getting dollars now or waiting until Feb?
Also, what is best method of money. I am staying at Astor on the Park which I understand doesn't have safes in the room. I am also with Nationwide bank. Am taking approx £400 (want to do sightseeing - not really into clothes shopping). Should I take all of it in cash, some cash and some travellers cheques or bit of cash and use debit card to take money out over there?
Many thanks.Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:0 -

hmm.. if the exchange rate stays where it is.. nationwide is the best bet. however, there will be times you need cash, so you'll be searching for an ATM.. or if you get some cash now, at least you'll have it..
its a difficult play to call to be honest, i always take cash, but with my current cash flow, i'll be getting it in bits between now and march when i jet off...

I guess it deneds on what you prefer, I always take cash (I put about $100 dollars in my purse, and the rest in a zipped pocket in my bag (across the body bag, not shoulder!!), then at least if someone snatches my purse I still have the rest - like you my hotels have never had safes)
I have never taken cards with me, If you don't have enough cash to buy it, can you afford to pay it off the cards when you get back?
My sister (who's a ny expert) says never take tc, as travel agents always give you large ones and some stores get a bit funny when you try and buy something for a couple of dollars and have to pay with $50/$100 tc!!0 -
Has anyone rented a NYC apartment through www.metrodwellings.com?
Any information or advice would be very helpful, thanks!“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Anyone know the cheapest way to see a broadway show? Better to book a ticket in this country/ reserve tickets/ or wait and get them there, etc.etc. Any advise much appreciated.

Last time I went to New York was a while ago - but there was a little stand in times sqaure that sold last minute tickets to shows at greatly reduced prices. I suppose it depends how fussy you are on what seats you get.I'm a nutter :j0

As mentioned in the post above, there is a TKTS booth in Times Square - although it has temporarily moved. If you walk through the Marriot hotel opposite where the booth normally is (and it's not hard to find) you will find the queue - it moves fairly fast, but get there before it opens. I went to a matinee on Wednesday and got in the queue at 9:45 (it opens at 10) and was done by 10:15. You do have to be prepared to be jostled around, they get as many people as possible into the box office area, and then you have to push past loads of people to get out!
As far as i am aware, they open at 3pm for afternoon shows, these are alwasy more popular so try to get there for 2 to be near the front of the queue! I would double check this time, I may be wrong.
All the shows I could have seen were 50% off, I think this would be the same for evening performances but I'm not sure. Perhaps you could look at websites now to get a general idea of the prices, then work out the prices with 30-50% off.
As for seating - I was 4 rows from the front, which i was amazed at, but when I went to see a show a few years ago in NYC, my friend and I were up on the balcony right over to the side, I guess it would have been called a slightly restricted view.
Ooh, something I've just remembered about the seating - some of the theatres have odd numbered seating on a different side to the even numbers, so should you get 13 and 15, you will be sat together!!!
There is also another TKTS booth down at the South Street Seaport - I was told this is MUCH quieter than the times Square one.
Hope that has helped - enjoy whatever you go to see!Blood donations to date: 10 | Type: O negative[/B][/CENTER]0
