We are going to NY in 8 days (and counting)!!!!!!
Thought I could possibly make some money on an Iphone - any comments on how much you would be willing to pay for one if it was not locked (UK ones are locked to 02 for 18 months meaning min. cost of about £900)
According to Apple online I might be able to get one for around USD 400 (plus say taxes of 10%) but would they sell me one without a phone contract?
US iPhones are locked to AT&T. When you buy them from an apple store (card only, no cash) you are agreeing to have a 24 month contract. However, certain iPhones were "hackable" which is against the licence agreement to using the iphone software.
Since the UK launch at the beginning of November, the software is version 1.1.2 which remains UNHACKABLE, so if you did buy some iPhones, you basically have the same version as the UK ones, apart from yours are only for the USA...
it ain't going to work, unless the people who know stuff, get the unhackable, hackable..

JFK is closer to Manhattan Island than Newark and cheaper to travel from, but it's a MASSIVE airport which can make it harder to navigate and take longer.
Depending on where you want to fly from, I would have thought you could get your flights cheaper than you have there too. ETA: Airline network have LGW-EWR (Newark) sub £300 for example
Where abouts do you want to stay? Midtown?0 -

PS: It's always a good idea to clue up on a city's geography, before or as soon as poss after arrival - saves hassle and helps keep the likelihood of being taken for a ride to a minimum, plus it's always nice to be able to find your hotel again.Still waiting for Dyson to bring out a ride-on hoover...Memberships:

Im looking to take the girlfriend to New York, middle of June next year.
We'd be flying from London!!!
Can anyone suggest who'd be best to fly with and when to book?
Also is it worth checking site's like expedia for a flight & hotel package?
Any help would be greatly appreceated folks..
I go to new york loads, to be honest i wouldnt go near it in the summer, too hot. I went once in june and just couldnt get anything done because of the heat. I usually go in january, march or april or september. It is lovely in the winter and we have never had rain. Hotels can be cheaper in winter if you book in advance.0 -
ok... £50 - £70 a night is really really low amount for a decent hotel in NYC....
you will be able to get them, but they won't be a good acceptable standard. £100 a night is more really what you're looking at.
as for flights, i've always said that anything below £250, is a good price, and nearer £200 is perfect. anything OVER £275 is extortionate for a flight to NYC...
read through my previous posts, i'm sure i've mentioned things like this before, and also when a good time to book is...
also, next week, look forward to a new NYC mini guide..
