Hi all.
I am heading to New York on the 12th Dec for 6 nights. Its my bf's birthday when we are out there. Can anyone think of something special that I can arrange for his birthday?
He will be 22, we arent bothered about going out and drinking, id prefer to give him a really special day to remember, and then a nice meal or something.
We are staying at the Ramada at Newark Airport in NJ, so if possible not tooooo far away, but there are taxis etc, and NYC is supposedly only 8 miles away!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello.
My brother is getting married in NYC in June.
We are beginning to think in terms of logistice as there will be family heading out etc.
Ideally we would like some form of apartment set up for a week. A few days either side of the wedding. Either a three bed apartment for five people (two doubles and one single) or possibly a three person (one double, one single) as well as a double.
We would also like the option of getting more as other family members head out but will concentrate on the core requirements of the above.
Firstly are we too early to look for such a thing?
Secondly, does anyone have any recommendations?
for an apartment, no, i don't think you are looking too early, as good apts get booked up early.. take a look at what https://www.colbyinternational.com have to offer... they have some near each other, so if they are too small, you'll be alright, and they are reasonably priced...
the greenwich 2 bed might be suitable, as you have 2 bedrooms with double beds in, and a loft area with a single bed.. there are also 2 bathrooms...
£160 a night for this is cheap, (me and my sister are staying there in March hopefully!)
now, if other people want to stay as well, they have 2 studios (so for 2 ppl only) available on the same street, and the street is small, i think it could be the same building, but i don't know on that one...
or you have the 3 bed apt in midtown, a double, triple, and double rooms, with 2 bathrooms... £220 a night though... have a look at the website.. i'll stop babbling now...
there are some others around, but for a big apt, you're looking big bucks....0 -
Looking to go NYC at the end of March whats the cheapest we could get flights for around then? Everywhere I've looked so far has been over £300 per person?
Thanks
<repeat mode>
cheap is £200 ish
average is £225
ok is £250
expensive is over £275
</repeat mode>
things do get cheaper in Jan, for flights in march, i've said this before, and will keep saying it.. for flights, 3 months in advance is normally the best time to book, and you'll easily get a flight under £250

i don't know of anything to do in NJ.. it is NJ, and not manhattan.. however, if you do want a nice meal, that is a great idea... mention to the restaurant when you're booking it is a birthday meal, and see if they can throw in some sort of "suprise" for him, most that i've been to do...
as for something special... hell.. its NYC... everything there is special...
best cheesecake at roxy on times square
best NYC views - top of the rock
ice skating at the rockefeller center
horse ride around central park
boat ride on the staten island ferry for views of manhattan
helicopter tour
not very birthday orienated, but it is things to do... as for getting into Manhattan from NJ, i'd check out the trains, as a taxi will be expensive, 8 miles = 40 minutes = $50 as you are crossing from one state to another, and they charge more...0 -
Ooh, also...
Does anyone know how much we are allowed to bring back with us in regards to clothes & presents etc...the last thing I want is to be stopped at customs!
Ive been told by friends to take all tags off, throw all receipts, take clothes with me that I can leave there so my suitcase is near the same weight on the return journey as it was on the way out.
Is all this really necessary? Does anyone know the exact amounts? I just want to have a good time!
Thanks

£145, or around $290 is the rules..... i've never ever been stopped on the way back from NYC, not that i would be ever over the limit..
actually, i've never seen a customs person at the nothing to declare section when walking through... i have loads of receipts too, i never throw them away... i never throw any clothes away, my suitcase is normally heavier on the way back..
in other words.. don't worry, but, if you get caught, you have to pay.. its the risk you take for breaking the law...0 -

does that include flights.. i assume so.. take off £300 for flights, and you have a good healthy budget for a hotel. wow... £1000 for a hotel, 4 nights, is £250 a night, $500.. you could get a good deal on a W hotel, on 14th street, plush, posh and out of this world (and my price range!), just checked and they have rooms at USD 526.75 per night inc taxes... but is it nice - https://www.starwoodhotels.com and i recommend the W Union Square.
i hope i worked out your budget right, and that you really meant that, if not, sorry..0 -

Going to New York on the 29th December for 6 nights. Does anyone have any ideas which shopping outlets are the best? I went to Woodbury outlets 6 years ago on Black Friday  and got some great bargains but wondered if Southsteet Seaport would be better? My 14 year old daughter is excited about hitting the shops. I take it there are buses that go to these outlets from Manhatten?
Any advice would be welcome!0
