hi, markymoo,
just read this posts,,,Am thinking/dreaming of going to NY on our 1oth year anniversary,,and this is end of January, what's is the best place to book it with? ie, flight and hotel accommodation,
thanks,
throw questions out to everyone.. not just me... just because i go to NYC at least twice a year, doesn't mean i know everything...
ok... end of jan... you best start looking now..
the usual culprits for an internet based holiday, expedia, opodo, priceline etc for flights, if you're going for a special occasion, may i suggest ensuring a direct flight...
what is your overall budget, what airport you flying from, exact dates, hotel class you want... answer those brief questions, and i'll see what i can come up with...0 -
Cheers Markymoo, I've just read your guide and found out about the 3 month rule so I'll start looking again start of Jan!
don't take my word as gospel, please.. i personally check every so often, but when its around the 3 month mark, my checking goes to daily.... i ain't checked for my flights yet this week.. so i'll go do that now!0 -
Hi Angua2, Christa1 - thank you for your tips as they are much appreciated! That is the shopping sorted out! Many thanks also to Markymoo and everyone else who contributes to this thread, you have all helped so much in the planning of our holiday!0

went to NY in October - what a place!
I wanted to go to a show and went down to the Times Square booths as mentioned on here. The shows available were things like 'Mary Poppins' and 'Drowsy Chaperone' 'Legally Blonde'. We wanted to see 'Jersey Boys' but were told they never get tickets for that... or for 'mama mia' or 'hairspray'. So we took ourselves to the Austin Wilson Theatre. The guy in the box office told us to return the following afternoon and he'd then know if there were any returns for the week. Sure enough - 3pm Monday afternoon we got 2 x 116$ tickets for the most fantastic show. So it may be worth going directly to the theatre if you've a particular show in mind (the Ramada New Yorker has a booth in the corner of the lobby which provides tickets for shows and they quoted us 178$ each for Jersey Boys!!)Bern :j0 -

sofitel is number 4 out of all NYC hotels. IMO it is a better location too. Excelsior is number 149. These are based on tripadvisor rankings. If you're looking at an expensive hotel, look at the W at union square, much better location, as it is a nice village area. Plenty to do, and no times square tack!!0 -

Flying out on the 13th Dec, for 4 days, we are staying at the Gershwin Hotel, Tripadvisor reviews are a bit of a hit and miss, has anyone been recently?, if so can you put my mind at rest, at the moment I am thinking of changeing Hotels to the Ramada Eastside. Thanks....0

the W hotels are really really nice... if you're looking for a luxury hotel, i'd consider them... splittings things away from a flight and hotel package, can work out cheaper, so do consider your options there..
check out the reviews on https://www.tripadvisor.com, as this is the best place to find out what the hotels are like..

most people do rate the gershwin, as a good budget hotel.
you're going to NYC... what you'll end up using the hotel for is a base to drop off your shopping, get showered, changed, and sleep.. i'm normally in my hotel room for about 9 hours a day.. and 7 of that is sleeping, the rest of the time i'm out partying!!!
