daydreaming... maybe it is easier to tell us what you want, and then we can tell you if you can get them....

to list the many many brands available is really dull and pointless...

    Hi everybody,
We are going to NYC in 2 weeks time -never been before ;) Flight and hotel are booked :T and the time is now to organize our time over there. We are going to spend 7 full days plus half of the day on arrival and half on departure. There is the list of the places we would like to see.

    Times Square
    Empire State Building
    Brooklyn Bridge
    Statue of Liberty
    World Trade Centre (Ground Zero)
    Chrysler Building
    Rockefeller Center
    Flatiron Building
    Chinatown
    Little Italy
    Central Park
    MET
    Wall Street

Could anybody please advise how to put all these places in order to organize our days over there? We don’t want to be in rush but would like to see as much as possible every day and have time to relax. So any advice is welcome! Our son would like to visit Six flag adventure park in New Jersey – is it worthwhile to do?
Could you please advise the places to buy special New York souvenirs for family and friends and what do these souvenirs like? I mean something like the T-shirt “I love NY” some interesting calendars for the office - what else?
What are the best places for shopping –we are going to stay in the Hotel at the Times Square?
I’m not the fan of shopping, so I would like to shop over there in case I can’t buy something in the UK. What do you normally buy there?
And what about Broadway shows –do you recommend to buy tickets for it online before flying to NY or it is better to buy over there?
Sorry for so many questions and thanks!;)

My top tip is create yourself a google map, the 1st time we went to ny we spent a lot of time running up and down manahattan because we didnt realise what was in the immediate area, however last time we had our map and when we were say at our hotel which was 2 blocks from empire state we also knew we were a block away from flatiron and 2 from macys etc etc.

The "i love ny" t shirts are everywhere, our nearest tourist shop was selling 10 for $10.

As far as broadway shows go i recommend broadwaybox.com, we got spamalot tickets before we left the UK and paid half price for them, and they were damn good tickets too, you can chance your arm at the tkts booth however there are no gaurantees they will have what you want.

Hope this helps a bit there are loads of posts on this section of the site relating to where to go and what to do etc etc so go and have a read and hope you enjoy your trip.

    all the best

I am no expert, only been twice, but I shall do my best. :D

We saw all of those places you have listed and more and were only there for 3 days this time, and relaxed in Central Park more than once, plenty of time! Get yourself a map, Manhatten is very easy to get navigate round (well, we think it is), just make sure you get organised. :) I have put this in order from North to South, starting with Central Park though obviously there is life above Central Park. :D

    Central Park!

    Rockerfeller Centre

    Times Square

    Flat Iron Building
    Chrysler Building
    MET
    Macys
Fifth Avenue - loads of shops
    42nd Street

Do try and make sure you have an amble around the following 4 districts, if you want a feel of 'real' New York and its less touristy.

Greenwich Village (want to live there forever) :D
    Little Italy
    China Town
    Soho

    Wall Street
    World Trade Centre
    Statue of Liberty

For Broadway shows, there is a TKTS Booth at South Street, Seaport, near Battery Park, near the Staten Island Ferry, less queues than the tickets booth at Times Square. Get the Staten Island Ferry (free), it goes past Statue of Liberty and back again, so you can take all your pics.

I have listed Macys above but not really a shopper when I go, too much to see and do! :D But do have a read of this thread, loads of shopping and other tips. I love NY stuff is everywhere, especially Times Square. I do buy jeans there as Levis are about £20. :D

View is better from the top of the Rockerfeller rather than the Empire State Building, its less busy and you get to see the Empire State Building too!:D

Hope that helps a bit. Is there room in your suitcase for me?;)

I have been to NY a few times and the most romantic (and best!) place I have eaten has to be The Boathouse in Central Park, it was amazing! Not quite the "dinner & dance" that you mention but totally unique experience!

  • had a fab time, stayed just off times square,at the casablanca hotel.
best buy- peppermint foot spray!!!!!!!!! as walked the legs off my husband.
macys sale just starting (dont forget 11% off when you register as a tourist, same in bloomys)
dont bother with the guggenheim museum as most of it was closed and the american wing at the met was closed (where all the tiffany glass is)so check before you go.
we ate out mostly around greenwich village much better than the overpriced stuff around times square. enjoyed chillin in central park.
best buys for me shoes handbags cosmetics 30% off in macys sale.
nice day out- coney island, about an hour on the subway. its a very dated seaside resort like a 1950s movie set, great beach hotdogs beer etc. just a nice change from the city when it gets too hot.
hope you all have a good time.
