Now, here's a question. Staying at the Cosmopolitan, but at some point during our stay DH is going to need a sauna because it's the only thing which keeps his eczema under control.

And I'm talking the spa type of sauna not "that includes a massage sir" kind of sauna.

So, any recommendations? I wondered about the YMCA hostels, whether you could pay to use their facilities if you weren't a guest.

Hoping once we get there that we can get tickets for Wicked! Certainly not paying full price for them - $250 each! :eek:

nice day out- coney island,about an hour on the subway. its a very dated seaside resort like a 1950s movie set,great beach hotdogs beer etc. just a nice change from the city when it gets too hot.

Just a quick point you will find that Macys sales are a tad like MFI sales, ie they are always on, have to admit though macys is mine and mrs phatbears personal fave, the only real downside to the place is it highlights how much we are ripped off in this country.

macys is great loved all the discounts but shocking if you are in a wheelchair if you think of how often you go from one department into another. 9/10 times there is one or two steps. They provide a lift or ramp but you honestly need to travel back through the way you have just come from to get about 20 yard further into the shop . Then back again to the next point. Not kidding try it.
Macys is huge 3 miles of indoor walking or 5 miles wheeling.:mad:

But Virgin Megastore on Times Square (the showpiece store for the world of Virgin) didnt have a lift. So could only go on the middle floor .We could "chance it on the esculator"

the virgin at times square does have a lift.. i'm sure of it..

and i 100% know the virgin at 14th st, union square DOES have a lift to all floors... it's around the same size, and less busy than the times square one!

I'm lucky enough to be going to NY at the end of July. Expensive flight but staying with a friend, which helps.
Anyway, other than a bit of sightseeing I'm planning on doing a bit of shopping. For clothes I was thinking of A&F, Skechers, Diesel, Ralph Lauren. Anyone have any tips?
Also, I'm after some electronics. The following are items I'm interested in getting and the best price I can get for them in the UK:

All the Apple products will be cheaper in the US than the UK, whether that's in the Apple store or elsewhere. The DS Lite should also be cheaper.

Asus EEE PC goes by a different name in the US, but should be cheaper. I don't know if an sim-free N95 8GB would be cheaper but intuitively I'd say it won't be since mobile handsets tend to be fairly costly out there.

Phatbear: getting rid of packaging = make out it's been used and therefore hopefully no customs payment.

Randomtask: any idea of the Asus EEE name in the US, or should I just google it?

Shopping around... apple products, not worth it.. same price everywhere..

taking prices off apple.com (which isn't hard, you could have done this yourself) and adding on the 8.325% taxes, which will happen in stores gives you the following prices. (selecting a random $1.87 = £1 as an exchange rate)

And consider this.. You buy a product in the US, bin all the packaging, and then LIE if you get stopped by customs that you had taken it with you will get you nowhere... the product won't have the euro CE mark on the back, to prove it is safe, and this is a HUGE point, and makes it damn obvious that you'll be lying..
