Ideally I'd like to get them under £300. Is this unlikely?

with fuel prices rocketing, and the time of year you want to go.. yes

if you want cheap flights, January to March is always the cheapest!

Anyone travelling via Amsterdam's airport please take a look at MSE Wendy's sticky thread:

Warning! Connecting flights at a European airport? Your duty free may be confiscated.

I did the Amsterdam connection from Edinburgh in April and had such an amazing time I am doing it again in October there is no security or bags to worry about so like markymoo says you just have to go to the gate.

Thanks - good to know. Having never flown with the same airline right the way through, it's good to hear from someone that has! It's currently about £40 cheaper to fly via Amsterdam...might just be worth a shot!

I might delay my trip until then.

Quick question - I was thinking of booking a direct flight from Scotland with either Delta or Continental. When booking, do you get the option to book your seats, or do you have to wait closer to the time to book them when you check-in or worse still when you get to the airport?? I've gone through both sites as far as I can without putting in CC details, but don't see any options to pick seats.

You definitely can with Continental, as I've done it many times before.

I can't speak from personal experience for Delta but I would be really surprised if you couldn't pre-select seats. Remember it's basically a request not a guarantee though.

No guarantee it will be cheaper than you've got at the moment though, if the price of fuel continues to rocket (no pun intended!)

I'd be inclined to take the £342 price if you are happy with it and it's a better time of year for you. The weather would certainly be nicer in September ;)

Hi,I had an email today to let me know that I had won a trip to New York.It was this one..........sport-smiley-001.gif

I'm going to ask the promotor if we could take our 6yr old daughter on the trip if we pay the extra costs involved.Has anyone got any ideas on what ball park figure we may be looking at for this.
I've already started looking at places to visit on the trip. The Statten island ferry sounds good,as does the Rockefeller Centre.Any other ideas.
We will be on bed and breakfast over there so any tips on eating out for the other meals, preferably at the cheaper end.

when flying TATL, a 6 year old is a full fare...

so you'll be looking at £350ish for a flight, and then it even depends if they can change the room at the hotel to a room with another bed in

You gotta weigh up what's important. After a long (usually overnight flight) back from the States, with jetlag, and a winging OH, you gotta question whether £40 is worth the effort. It adds hours to your journey, extra scope for delays etc.
If it were me, and it was £40 extra for direct i'd take it everytime.

Also Continental and Delta both allow you to select seats at booking.

    Dan.
