I think you'd need to travel late Nov (after Thanksgiving) to see it more Christmassy. It will be very cold so be prepared.

Im going out Last week of Nov (out there for thanksgiving), so hoping to 'feel christmas' out there. How cold is 'very cold' though?

Cant wait.....my first trip to America!
    Nice to save.

We went in february and it was FREEZING ! Have never felt coldness like it. It must have been about -20 . Take plenty of layers of clothes with you instead of one big heavy jacket.
    I love NY :)

I'm travelling to New York on Thursday and was asked today if I had given them the '3 day notice'. I've never heard of this before? Is this something that should be top of my agenda tomorrow?
    :beer:MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS:beer:

the online registrations, and 3 day notice doesn't start until January 2009.
Tell you friend that they don't know what they're on about and are worrying you for no reason..

Not just Lear they worried! :rotfl: Even though we're more than 3 days away from travelling, the thought of ANOTHER thing to think about / worry about / remember to do was just a bit much! The other day I found myself fretfully going through threads to check whether my 3 points speeding conviction meant I needed a visa (I don't). I keep telling the boys that they ARE going to enjoy this holiday, Or Else! I've put enough work into it that they'd better ...

NY stage is sorted, still struggling with the rest of the trip. HotelConnxions doesn't have any hotels where we want to end up. :( The good places according to TripAdvisor are fully booked when we want to be there - fair enough, it IS the height of the holiday season. The place which comes up first on all the search engines has such DIRE reviews from TripAdvisor, including very recent ones, I'm desperately trying to avoid it.

But this is rather OT, so I shall get back ON topic by saying thanks for banging on about HotelConnxions, and I think that on one of my many browsings on the site it even let me do what I needed to do (book beds for five) at a later stage, even though the initial screen suggests you can't have more than four people in your party.

Arrived thanksgiving day last year, jeans and t-shirt weather. Woke up the next day, watched the weather, said that day would be 52DegF. I don't know my DegFs, i do DegC, so proceeded out of the hotel again in jeans and T-shirt. Turns out it was about -1DegC. So yeah it's cold!:D

Hi,I had an email today to let me know that I had won a trip to New York.It was this one..........sport-smiley-001.gif

I'm going to ask the promotor if we could take our 6yr old daughter on the trip if we pay the extra costs involved.Has anyone got any ideas on what ball park figure we may be looking at for this.
I've already started looking at places to visit on the trip. The Statten island ferry sounds good,as does the Rockefeller Centre.Any other ideas.
We will be on bed and breakfast over there so any tips on eating out for the other meals, preferably at the cheaper end.

congrats. I would think there would be no problem asking for an extra flight.

one place we ate, which the guidebook said was scmaltzy but be thought was great was Carnegie Deli

The sanwiches are HUGE, big enough to share, and tasty, and cheap.

There's SO much to do, you will not be able to do everything you want in 3 days.

To me it would be a waste of time spending a lot of time in the shops - grab a few bargains sure, but see the stuff New York has to offer while you have the opportunity. You can go shopping anywhere ;)

Central Park, Ellis Island, Tennement museum. Catch a baseball game. Whatever floats your boat!

    Have a great time. :)

Got caught out exactly the same way in Feb this year. Watched the weather which said it was 11 degrees which I thought was quite nice until OH said "You do know thats nearly MINUS 12 degrees C don't you"
We had 7 layers each on, wooly hats, gloves and scarves over our faces but still had a fabulous time. I doubt November will be quite that cold though, it tends to be Jan/Feb that are the colder months in NYC
