Hi all!!! I have spent the best part of 6 hours over 2 days reading this thread for our trip in November and I still only got to about page 11 as I was trying different things with the links! Everyone has been very helpful so far.

We are flying out to Toronto on 21st Oct, spending 2 weeks touring up there and then getting the Maple Leaf down to NY (seems to be the cheapest way, drove it last time  and I would rather the train driver have the stress tbh) on 6th November, staying somewhere for 5 nights! Other friends are flying out from Glasgow to join us for a few days when there.

Still in process of looking for accommodation, spent ages trawling the net looking for the best deals and I am sure one will jump up and grab me one day!

One question. When a friend was in NY at Easter she was taken to a cocktail bar which she tells me was a roof top bar near the Flat Iron building. When they got to the top bar they were given a red cloak to wear as it was evening and chilly. Unfortunately she didn't get the name of it and I can't find out anything about it now. Does anyone know???

    Thanks in advance

The rate we're getting from our post office for a £ is $1.80, however when I log into travelex USA it says rate for a £1 is $2.12 but it also says only for U.S residents

Would it be cheaper if we get some of our currency converted from new york/jfk?

Dunno where you're getting $1.80 to the £ from the post office is currently $1.87 to the £ and travelex is $1.89.6.

You've kind of answered part of your own question that rate is for US citizens only, also if you follow the process through it also charges you $13.00 delivery.

Also in response to the other part of your question you probably wouldnt be any better off, there really is no need to get hung up over a cent or two, unless you are exchanging tens of thousands of pounds, just get ur cash over here so when you arrive you dont have to worry about finding somewhere to change your money up and you can make the most of enjoying the city.
