    hi everyone
I am new on here and been reading through some of this thread and looking for advice..
I'm planning a surprise trip to NYC this December for myself and my bf, looking to depart 18th December for 3nights/4days. I have found a deal for £582 per person staying at the affina manhattan. Is this a good deal? I have never been before and not sure of the best places to stay this place seemed to have some good reviews. Mainly going for sightseeing and shopping,
    any advice appreciated!!
    thanks

is that flight and hotel? what airport are you travelling from?

plenty of advice around, have you ready my two guides, one in booking your holiday, the other getting into and around manhattan? again, plenty of advice in them threads..

if you're getting £582 per person, for flights and hotel, then yes, it is good.
if it is £582, just for 3 nights in a hotel, then it is expensive IMO

According to trip advisor the affina is a very well thought of hotel.

As far as sightseeing and shopping goes you'll be fine as long as you are a block or two away from a subway as you can cover all of manhattan and beyond on them, or grab a cab which are quick and easy just make sure you know where you're going, including the cross street as the vast majority of cabbies havent got a clue where they are going.

Shopping can take you all over manhattan from getting bargain designer wear at century 21, which is down the towards the bottom of manhattah opposite where the twin towers were to macys, the world largest store, which you will be 4 blocks from, which is an easy walk.

Sight seeing again will take you all over manhattan, you're 5 blocks away from empire state but a fair walk from times sq, and you will need to get a subway to get the staten island ferry, which is free, to see the statue of liberty.

Best idea is to buy a decent guide book and plan what you must see what you would like to see etc and maybe, as i did, created a google map, that way when you're in a certain area you can see if anything else is close that you would like to do, i made this mistake on our 1st trip and we spent the majority of the time going up and down manhattan.

    all the best

  • Sorry Markmoo

Obviously the thrill of my first post went to my head and i forgot to mention these prices are related to flying out on the 19th September we're a bit restricted with this date as my other sister is coming from Australia but could be flex by a day or two.

Is there any other hotels you can recommend in the good but reasonable price bracket?

    Cheers

Question for Markymoo, you seem to have good knowledge of USA flights and hotel deals and everybody seems to be asking for your advice.

I am looking for New York in week 6th Dec - 14th Dec 2008 for 3/4 nights for 2 adults.

Found its cheaper to leave on 10th Dec and return on Sunday 14th Dec.

Looking to depart from Cardiff or any London airport.

Found KLM, NWA flights from cardiff for £406/person and St James Hotel for £421 using FLYBMI website and voucher code F1OFFER as seen in past posts.

So in all I am looking at £1221 mark, would like to see it just above the thousand. Am I pushing it or can you beat it ?
    Cheers!

i see markymoo has helped you out ....to get a cheap fare you have to include a saturday night with most airlines, hence the probable discrepancy when you were looking...hth

We want to get away for Christmas and family (2 Adults, 1 teen) want to see New York, so thinking of combining both. Just wondered if any seasoned NY people think this is a good idea. Will spend Xmas and boxing day in hotel - will this cause problems i.e. everything shut? No food? Do you think NY over this time would be a bad idea???

    thanks
