  • On the 14th January I bought a 6ft extendable dining table, 6 wave back dining chairs and a Tokyo sideboard. Total price £1,398.00 inc vat. They offered a free mirror with oak surround but I said I would prefer a nest of tables instead. Even though the tables were listed at a lower price than the mirror the Manageress at the Bolton store said that she couldn't arrange the swap because their computer system wouldn't allow it. When I asked for a bit of discount, I got the same response, 'the computer system wouldn't allow them to offer any discount'.
The furniture was delivered on the 10th February. The delivery went according to plan and all the items were in good condition apart from a very small split underneath one of the chair rails.
After positioning the furniture in the dining room it looked great, but we decided that we would like to buy another 2 wave back chairs. I telephoned the store on the 11th February and spoke to the assistant manager. He quoted £139 per chair which was a lot more than we had paid when we bought the 6 chairs as a package with the dining table. He absolutely refused to offer me a better price even after I had explained that we had bought a table and 6 chairs less than 4 weeks earlier. His explanation was 'the computer system doesn't allow them to offer any discount'.
So on the 11th February I emailed Head Office thinking that somebody there would see reason and have the authority to let me buy two additional chairs at the price we had previously paid. By the 14th February I hadn't received even an acknowledgement of my email so I re-sent it with a short explanation that I had previously emailed them but not heard back. A few hours later I received a telephone call from a lady in the customer services department who said it was their company policy not to offer discount to anybody and that if I wanted to buy two more chairs I would have to pay the full price of £139 each! When I explained that near the bottom of their printed invoice there is a line that says "Discount" just above the line for the total amount, she inferred that she didn't believe me and re-iterated that oakfurnitureland don't offer discounts to anybody. Needless to say I won't be buying anymore furniture from them.
  • Likewise you didn't offer to overpay them. So should they come on here and say "I had a customer who wouldn't give us extra money for no reason - we won't be selling to them anymore!"

Just so wish I'd read this thread before ordering from OFL. Despicable company. Have paid £39 for nothing. So upset and cross with myself. Still, a valuable lesson learnt.

  • £39 for nothing? The express delivery charge?

No, not an express delivery charge, I'm afraid. This was apparently a 'failed delivery charge' but there was no delivery or attempted delivery or failed delivery. Ah well, you live and learn. Never again.

  • I got my dining room table from here which was really nice quality :)
  • I wasn't particularly sure about the waiting times so I got my tv cabinet from a company called Easy Furnishings. They delivered the cabinet in 3 days which I thought was quite good.

Does anyone know of any alternatives stores to oak furniture land in the Thurrock or Kent area? :)
  • We are in the process of a dreadful experience with Oak Furniture land. I would warn anyone off buying from them given the policy which we have now experienced. We ordered 3 pieces of furniture at a cost of £888. 3 items were delivered and all 3 were damaged. OFL refused to take all 3 back and send new items, insisting that their Homeserve engineer would be able to repair back to showroom standard crushed corners on oak furniture. As we were given no option to return or replace the furniture, we accepted the engineer visit. He repaired all 3 pieces of furniture - NONE are at showroom standard and 2 are completely not acceptable. OFL still refuse to send new items insisting that yet another engineer visits and makes yet another repair. We have refused insisting on new furniture which has been point blank declined by OFL. The only option we are left with is to return the goods for a refund. Pitiful Customer service !
  • I really wish I'd researched Oak Furniture Land before we purchased our Denver Corner sofa. From the minute we unpacked it we knew something was wrong! Two of the seat cushions were 90mm thick of foam and two were 120mm. As you can imagine it didn't quite look like the showroom piece we had tested.
We raced back to the store we had bought it from and measured all the seat cushions (we did receive some peculiar looks) they all measured 120mm thick. We then called OFL back within an hour of delivery to be told to take photos and email them.
After a week we were told the engineers were coming to make a report. They came and measured the foam and agreed it was all different thicknesses but we would have to wait for the report.
Fast forward two weeks ago and I get a call from OFL. The manufacturer is sending new seat cushions. I informed Richard my case manager that I didn't want them, I wanted my money back as I'd been conned out of £1400. Richard @ OFL told me to wait and see what the new cushions were like and that if they’re not up to showroom standard we would discuss alternatives.
At 8.45am this morning my new cushions arrived. I had no idea they were coming today but luckily it's the school holidays and I was in. I'm not sure how we're meant to put these cushions into the covers as they're a real tight fit and not a standard shape. Then my husband came home and measured the new foam, they're all 90mm thick, not 120mm like the shop.
From delivery to now has been 5 weeks. I've called OFL but Richard is conveniently on holiday, Troy can't help so the managers going to call back! I'm still waiting and fed up now. We spent months looking for the right sofa to fit in our room and now its ended up being the biggest waste of time and money. I have offered to drive the sofa back to the manufacturer but they won't give me their address. What do I do now? For a 5 week old sofa it looks like we've had it 5 years.:mad::mad::mad::mad: I'm quite happy to pay the £50 return fee or the £70 costs at money claim court, either way it will be money well spent.
