  • I bought two oak bookcases and a nest of coffee tables in oak back in August - I bought the bookcases from ebay (container Clearance Company) and the tables from Oakfurnitureland - this was the cheapest way to do it, and all transactions tracked on quidco.

The furniture was all received about 4 weeks after ordering, the times quoted on ebay and their website were between 6 and 9 weeks so I was impressed. The furniture was well packaged and no faults or cracks in the wood, the fit of the drawers in the bottom of the bookcases (they are low wide bookcases with three drawers across the bottom) is not perfectly even, but this gives the furniture a rustic rather than faulty look. They are heavy substantial pieces of furniture, and three months later no faults or cracks have developed.

I got my quidco from the ebay purchases paid last month, but the purchase from oakfurnitureland, which was on the quidco website as 8%, tracked at a penny and has gone no further - quidco CS are not interested in investigating this further.

I have bought quite a few bits of furniture from them over the years, mainly the dark mango wood and cannot fault them. Staying in for delivery is a bit of a pain but I haven't had anything faulty or damaged, it has all been great. The furniture is chunky, well made and very substantial. The only gripe is that one of the items with drawers is a bit stiff but a lot better than if I had anything to do with making it!

I will continue to buy from them and am surprised to see the complaints others have about them.

Just to let everyone know that they have a factory clearance store in Chippenham, Wiltshire which offers very very good discounts on "seconds" oak furniture.
  • Hi

I haven't bought from them but am planning to. I suspect a few trolls on this thread as there are so many complaining who are just newbies.

  • I spent over £1500 on a whole set of mango bedroom furniture from OFL this summer. Initially service was great, delivery on time, and two very polite delivery guys. One of the wardrobes was damaged, however this waas replaced within the week. So far so good.

However, within a few months, cracks started appearing in all the furniture, the wardrobe doors warped so much they would not close, and nearly all of the drawers stuck and jammed so tight I could not open them.

OFL sent out an independent inspector who basically said they whole lot was poorly made, and completely unrepairable. OFL offered me a measly £180 to keep the furniture (this is furniture which by this point was pretty much unusable, with no doors closing, and drawers were having to be stored on the floor because they would not fit back in the chest). I refused this offer, and a further one of £250, and asked for replacements. I had the same response as an earlier poster, that replacements were not economically viable, and would therefore not be possible. Finally they agreed to a full refund for all furniture.

When the furniture was collected, the couriers did a significant amount of damage to my house, chipped plaster, woodwork, wallpaper torn, and carpets damaged. I listed all this on the delivery note, and immediately sent them photos of the damage, however they have simply denied causing the damage, and refused to take it further.

It then took a further 3 weeks of badgering with constant phone calls to get my refund cheque.

I have been left significantly out of pocket, with approximately £150 worth of damage to the house, and 3 days lost work waiting for the collection couriers, and inspectors etc.

If you are lucky enough to get ok furniture from this company, then I'm sure you will be happy, but their customer service if there is a problem leaves a LOT to be desired. I guess I am lucky I at least got all my money back. Reading around on various review sites I can see a significant number of people have had similar problems. I, for one, will definitely not be using this company again.
  • I have had loads of problems with this company trying to get a delivery date for my furniture. I ordered my furniture in november and was told it would all be delivered on 12th january, only to be delayed until march now, which will be 16 weeks by the time i get it, if i ever get it! They still cant give me a definite delivery date.
I had to put in numerous calls to get any sense out of anyone which led to a complaint. The customer services manager who dealt with it said she would try to resolve the problem for me but did not return any of my calls and was impossible to get hold of.
    Not a happy customer!!

Ordered a Rustic Oak Lamp Table from Oak Furniture Land.

Had to pay in full and then wait 6 weeks for delivery.

It arrived yesterday and on opening the packing I noticed immediately that one on the bottom wooden braces between the legs was split in two, further investigation showed that that one of the legs was also split and pulling away from the side panel. The corner edge of the of table top has received significant impact and has polystyrene embedding in it, the bottoms of all of the legs are bruised resulting in the fibres of the wood starting to separate from the impact.

However, there is no external damage to the box at all to correlate with any of the damage to the table inside.

It would therefore, seem perfectly clear that I have been deliberately sent damaged goods as new ones.

I rang Oak Furniture Land immediately and was told I would have to wait a further six weeks for a replacement and that they would not offer any sort of compensation for the loss of use or inconvenience caused.

Was left very unhappy with the level of customer service and their stance of simply quoting THEIR terms and conditions, which don't necessarily comply with the Sale of Gods Act.

It was only after doing a web search that I have realised that this sort of damage would seem to be a typical incident with them and that they would appear to be well known for passing off damaged goods as new.

Has anybody reported them to trading standards?

I think I might have saved myself from making an error. I would have ordered t'night - with all the offers, and relatively mixed reviews elsewhere.

There are few positive reviews and a lot more bad experiences recorded here than elsewhere. So if oakfurnitureland arn't all that good, then which other retailers are? Even if pricier?

I am struggling to find something that I like, from a seller who is trustworthy online. Should I be looking for a local carpenter !?

We used a local shop in Harrogate called Alpha Pine, (after I cancelled my order with Oakfurnitureland after waiting 3 weeks and hearing nothing) they were brilliant, they made to order and it's all absolutely solid, dovetail joints etc...no hardboard bottoms in draws...you get the size you want.....a six draw chest 5" high cost us £139 and the bed side units (3 draws) were £69 each. Dressing table (with a draw and turned legs)was £129. They charge 20% I think for painting them but I wanted a specific finish so did it myself. Have recommended to a few people that have been really impressed. From the outside of the shop it looks like a little antique shop but there's a big workshop at the back. Always worth looking into a good old fashioned carpenter....sorry get a bit carried away when I'm impressed with something!!!

Oak Furniture Land have agreed to replace the damaged table and have told me to keep the damaged one, which at least has some use until the replacement arrives.

So at this stage I am reasonably happy, but there is no guarantee the replacement which will take 5/6 weeks to arrive, will be free from damage?

I had absolutely excellent service from Waltons Ranch Solid Oak Furniture. My oak table with dining chairs was delivered exactly when they said it would be, in perfect condition. http://www.waltonsranch.co.uk/ This, despite awful weather conditions, was shortly before Christmas - and I only had to wait a few days for delivery.
