I haven't used Oak Furniture Land, but have used an exceptional alternative: http://www.oakitashop.co.uk/

We have a gorgeous dinning table and chairs, delivery and quality brilliant.

They sell both direct from their website, and also via Ebay. Is cheaper to buy direct.

For reviews, check out their ebay site, they have over 1,000 very good reviews: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/oakita-co-uk/
I ordered an oak unit on the internet, and had been starting to worry myself that it was this lot, after reading all of these threads. However, I realised my order was from a totally different company, www.oakfurnituresolutions.co.uk I did have to wait a while for it, and was starting to panic as I've never spent that much with an unknown company before, but it arrived yesterday and I'm so pleased with it. Don't know how prices compare, but I was very happy with them.

Both recommended on here. still very happy with the unit I got.
  • I have just received a nice dresiing table from oakfurnitureland.

    There are only two gripes.

    1. It took 4 weeks to be delivered (1 week until dispatched, 3 weeks with 3rd party delivery company)

    2. I didn't order a dressing table. I ordered a computer desk!!!

I guess I will have to wait another 4 weeks until they send the correct item.:(
  • Our experience:

    Good Points
    • We bought 3 pieces of furniture, which arrived within expected timescales
    • Delivery great, not a mark on the boxes, extremely well packaged
    • 1 piece of furniture was without a fault
    • competitive price
    • looked nice in our lounge
    Bad Points
    • 2 faulty pieces of furniture. [OK, sometimes mistakes are made by companies, so they arranged to send someone around to fix it or should I say refurbish it]
    • The refurbishment guy was great, he could fix anything,
      • the nails on the outside of the furniture could be hammered in
      • the 'biro' marks could be worked out
      • the chip could be filled in with wax (he did a good job on this)
      • the 3 extra screw holes could be filled in too
    • The saw marks on the front of 1 piece of furniture meant it had to be taken away to be planned down, re-sanded and re-waxed e.t.c. [I started to think, perhaps I should reasonably ask for the 2 bits of furniture to be replaced, after all I had bought them as new]
    • Well, I was told 'It's not viable for them to replace items, although they'd come and collect it, and would refund my money when I had returned the goods' [Fair enough,....but]
    • I then [perhaps, I'm a gluten for punishment] suggested I'd use my refund to re-order my goods, at which point I was told 'We don't have to honour any orders, and if you did get an order through and found it was damaged, you wouldn't be able to return it' [at this stage, my common sense kicked in, and decided just to return the goods and wait to get my refund]
I've tried to be as factual and objective as possible in my comments, until now....

I'm completely bewildered by this response from the company, cos if I was a MD of a company confident about deliverying high quality furniture, it would make commercial sense for me to offer a replacement and keep the money, but for some reason this doesn't make sense for oakfurnitureland.

If you get furniture undamaged, it's good, but you'll only get 1 chance to order - good luck!
  • Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I have recently bought a large extending dining table and 6 leather chairs from Oakfurnitureland and would say that so far, not so good. The item was delivered quickly but I cannot use it as one of the legs will not fit onto the table due to the two brass pillars that attach the leg to the table not being straight. This seems to me to be poor quality control when checking it as this leg would never fit onto the table.

They are sending a guy round to have a look at this and in the mean time I have requested a replacement leg which they haven't yet agreed to do. I have sent them a few pictures of the problem and they are reviewing these but still have committed to giving me a new one yet.

The item cost £699 via their website. This is a relatively cheap price for what is a substantial bit of furniture and decent designed chairs. However, the poor quality is knocking the shine off of my purchase and I just hope that my problem gets resolved soon.

I will post a further update on this once the blokey from their third party maintainers comes and haves a look.

  • As with others on this discussion I have ordered from Oak Furnitureland, recieved a faulty item of furniture, and been refused a replacement!

The furniture repair man came out and was perfectly lovely, though he could not fix the coffee table as it is so badly warped. He believed that the wood had not been allowed to dry out fully before it was built and so now all of the drawers have jammed because their slots are no longer square.

    Perhaps I am a glutton for punishment, but I rather like this coffee table and want another. however, to quote OFL;

'Unfortunatelywe we are unable to reship the product on this occasion due to the costing involved with carriage and the low sale price paid. In these circumstances we will offer the collection and refund in full'

    This I queried due to the fact the coffee table is still being sold for the price I paid for it, and with free shipping. I advised I would use my refund to re-order;

'A new order may be rejected as this would be viewed as the same as a replacement item.'

    What a joke!

Do I have any grounds to demand a replacement?

    Quick update.

I spoke with the customer services team who were very polite on the phone and took my details regarding the dodgy leg for my new oak dining table. Although their immediate response was to advise me that they couldn't do anything until their own surveyor had checked it out, I sent them some pictures of the problem which they would take a look at over the weekend just gone. The surveyor duly arrived at his alotted time and date, he even tried to fix the problem but with no success. That prompted me to get on the phone to the customer services and moan at them again. This time they checked my pictures and despatched a new leg. My table is now set up and I can get my friends and family around it.

In summary: were they helpful? yes.
did they make me feel as though I was a valued customer? sort of.
will I buy from them again? maybe.

This could have gone better. They delivered the items I ordered on time and with no hassles. It's a shame that the product wasn't great straight out of the box as it should have been. This has left me wondering if their quality control is as good as they say it is.

    Thanks.

  • I have a Guest House and was struggling to find a range of furniture with the individual pieces I required to fit my rooms. None of my local suppliers had anything so I looked online and found Oak Furniture Land, they had everything I needed at a reasonable price so I ordered 2 rooms of bedroom furniture. It took several weeks to arrive and when it did my problems started.
3 items arrived damaged and 1 bed was missing, they said they would fast track it up before the weekend as we were fully booked and needed the bed but on the friday I recieved a phonecall that the bed would not arrive as the pallet it was on had collapsed! As I suspected when it did arrived it was damaged but I still had to use it. They send someone to try and repair the items, 1 chip he managed but the bed and the wardrobe could not be fixed. Oak Furniture Land then offered me £150 off which I refused as I wanted the items replaced. During this time and several e-mails we started noticing that the wardrobe doors and cupboard doors were not closing properly, again they sent someone up to try to fix things. The man took one look and said there was nothing he could do and that I needed the items replaced, next I noticed that big gaps had appeared in the joints on the bed heads and by now none of the doors could be closed. I was having to appologise to my guests about the furniture and having to explaine that we were waiting for it to be exchanged. I spoke to a Mike at customer services and he said that once they had the report from the repairer they would organise a replacement. I waited another 2 weeks and heard nothing, when I phoned I was told that Mike had left the company and the girl I spoke to seemed to know nothing of the problems I had and I had to go through it all again. After putting me on hold for 15mins she came back and told me that they would pick up all the furniture and give me a refund. I asked could they not replace the items instead or change them for another range, I was willing to pay for any difference in price. I was then told very sharply that Oak Furniture Land would not be suppling me with any more furniture now or in the future! When I explained that I had a business and I would loose a lot of trade if I had no furniture in the rooms I was told that it was not their problem and that they would be picking it up in the next 2 to 3 weeks.
I had a frantic search for replacement pieces and a local firm Goodwood Interiors were fantastic and managed to source everything I needed within 4 weeks and I managed to hold off the couriers untill the new stuff arrived. It has still cost me a lot as I had to keep the rooms empty to change over the furniture and as I had planned to pay Oak Furniture over 2 years interest free i now had to find the full amount for the new furniture and I am still waiting for a refund of what I have paid to Oak Furniture Land. The couriers said that they do a lot of returns for the company so mine is certainly not a one off.

This is a dilema for me now, as I was planning to visit their showroom in Cheltenham to look at a few dining sets ive seen online (I want to see, feel and sit before I buy!)

But checking my trusty MSE I find this thread and looks like im likely to recieve faulty goods, and a rather odd refund policy (in a way it makes a refreshing change, as mosy companies insist on a replacement rather than refund), but to actually say any further orders would be cancelled? rediculous!

I can only assume that a very large percentage of their products are faulty or damaged, and they know it, and if they replace, the customer is likely to find faults with the replacement and would have to replace/refund again!... and thats why they dont offer replacements or second orders.

Obviously a company who dont want to rely on repeat custom, just 'sell n run'. Shame, as I really liked the look of the dining room suite on the web site:(.
  • I just thought I'd share my experience with oakfurnitureland - I have ordered 2 items from them, a desk and then a chest of drawers.

    good:
-both items arrived ahead of schedule, I was contacted a week prior to delivery to confirm I could receive it, and by the driver when 30 minutes away.
-well packaged, good delivery service, no damage
-solid well-made items - one quibble, the wood under the leather blotter pad is much thinner than the rest of the desk, but still strong enough to hold a computer.
-looks very good, the mahogany chest has a wave pattern that makes it look like tiger's eye gemstone.
-when i spoke to customer service, they were polite and friendly

    bad:
-only one delivery slot a week
-I received two carefully wrapped steel rods with my desk, but no one at the company can tell me what they are for.
-they always have a biggest sale ever on, and usually say it's ending today on their website.

Overall, I was nervous buying from them after reading this thread (long time mse lurker), but I am very happy with my furniture, and do not have any serious complaints.
