MSE News: Sky to hike line rental and home phone prices, but you can beat them

Just had this from Sky Chat:
I have checked the cancellation guidelines and if you choose to cancel there would be early cancellation charges
If you were in your minimum term eg the first 1 year of your contract, you would have the right to cancel. As you are in a re-contract period this does not allow cancellation without fee.
This is Sky's cancellation policy. If you wish to discuss this further I would recommend you call our cancellation team after 0830am on 03442 41 41 41
Can this be true? surely not?0 -
Ignore the above, I have been passed to the cancellations and they have agreed I can cancel all services without charge.0

Maybe another result of their appearance on Watchdog last night?0

I assume you have told them you are transferring to another provider and not just cancelled or you will at least lose your present number.0 -
The Watchdog item didn't seem to achieve anything; rather dull.0

This is Sky's cancellation policy.
They were checking the wrong part of the policy.
I think what they are quoting is the fact that in minimum term you can cancel, early on, if you find the product not suitable, but this does not apply at the beginning of any re-contract.ie there is no cooling off period.0 -

it was nothing to do with a recontract. It was all to do with someone not realising ( or ignoring the fact ) you could cancel because of a price increase.0 -

The sentence you missed off the quotation says that they were looking at the wrong part of the policy. ie They were looking at leaving after re-contracting, instead of after a price increase.0 -
The first person was not backing down, telling me over and over that I can not cancel without a fee. I kept asking him if he was sure he had the right information, I even posted comments from the net stating that he was wrong. I also quoted the part in the letter that as good as stated I could cancel within 30 days. I just kept going around in circles with him until he asked if I wanted to be passed through to cancellations, who to be fair were brilliant.
The lady in cancellations said that she doesn't know where he got that information from and she was sorry what he had told me that. I think it was just a case of getting through to the right department even though I started out at complaints lol. It wasn't the best person to be dealing with complaints, thats for sure.
I haven't cancelled yet because I was hit with two choices which I wasn't expecting, one being to give 14 days notice but I can't setup my new BB until it was disconnected. The second was to transfer to another company and keep my number. I couldn't decide because I was worried about not getting any quidco going with the second route. Luckily the nice lady said that my account is agreed to no penalty and I can decide within the next 30 days.
What would be the best move now? Should I just contact another company and let them transfer everything over? do I need to contact sky again? I have been looking at talktalk fibre and maybe the plus tv and for the £100 voucher on offer but when I input my phone number from Sky it says I need a new line and i'm not able to have the voucher.0
