Money Moral Dilemma: Should I pay for the groom to eat and drink on his stag do?

  • Sounds like a nightmare in the making. Berlin can be an expensive city and choosing the right time of year makes all the difference. I would be declining the invitation to this event and in anticipation of the expectations of the wedding funding, would be unable to attend that function as well.
Wish him all the best and he knows where you stay when he needs a shoulder to cry on. Buckfast wedding favours anyone?

Take it entirely case by case.

Being in a reasonably well paid professional job I'd happly pay for a harder up good mate to have a good time especially if they were under genuine pressure preparing for / paying for the wedding....

I have another friend who is an investment banker, we thought nothing of letting him pay his own way

It's a stag do, why is the bride trying to dictate anything? Was she asked to get involved? (I booked my OH and friends on his stag do basically because the only part they could arrange together was the p*ss up in the brewery :rotfl: )

If the stags friends want to pay the stags food / drinks while he's away, that's for them to decide between them. Yes, I personally would expect them to take him out for a meal but not knowing their circumstances that might not be financially possible for some.

Tell bridezilla to butt out and concentrate on her hen do demands.

  • Maybe she doesn't want to pay for his hookers herself?

Not that I'd want to get married to somebody who wanted to spend his stag do in a place so well known for people waking up with no wallet, a couple of thousand Euros debited from their credit cards and no memory of how it happened, but I would definitely say something if I thought household money that I'd equally contributed to could end up funding a week's worth of crack because the Groom's mates all got drunk and thought it would be a great idea to get a few lapdances.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I can't see why all of the above is any more likely to happen in Berlin than anywhere else to be fair.

Then again, I agree that this whole idea is stupid. Why not just go to the local boozer for some drinks like people used to FGS!

I find the whole ‘going on holiday’ for a stag/hen-do utterly ridiculous personally, whatever happened to a night-out with friends? Now I hear stories of groups going on a huge jaunt to Vegas to get as drunk as they would at the local pub! What a waste! Why not put that money towards a first marital home or a nice honeymoon? I would tell the bride that if the stag-do is to go ahead overseas then they best pay up!
